Farberware's great perking sound takes you back to the days of your childhood, but the percolator is definitely a product of the millennium. Nine minutes from start to finish for the 12 cup capacity to perk. The sleek stainless steel body and powerbase look ultra techy, but the sounds are aromas are retro! My favorite part is that the coffee is really hot, and stays hot.

I've been a Faberware coffee drinker since I can remember and have had alot of there pots. When I saw this one I just had to have it. Keeping true to there tradition this pot has got to be the best coffee maker around. The first thing you notice is the beauty of this machine. It looks like it just came out of "The Jetsons" The base of the machine has all the functions Eg: timer, on-off, clock and set buttons. You can program all it's features from hese buttons. The coffee it brews is without a doubt the hottest coffee I have ever drank, if you love hot coffee this pot is for you.

Review: At last, contemporary styling and hot delicious coffe

I've been hunting for the "perfect" coffee maker for quite some time. I wanted the modern convenience of a self-timer, contemporary styling, and most importantly, hot deliciously brewed java.

Auto drips fulfilled the first two necessities, but always fell short on the last. No matter what brand of auto-drips I tried, coffee was lukewarm at best. My grandmother's 20-year-old percolator made better tasting, hotter coffee every time. But I never was fond of the appearance or lack of a self-timer.

Finally, I saw this percolator and knew it was a winner. The body, basket, and tube are easy to clean, maintain, and because it's all stainless steel, it doesn't transfer any metal taste to the coffee. The fact that the electrical cord is built into the base unit, makes unplugging and re-plugging the cord each time you want to pour a cup of coffee a thing of the past. The timer is accurate and easy to setup. I love the little things the engineers thought of, like a built-in 2-hour auto shutoff, in case you forget on a busy workday.

Simply a great product that actually does everything it claims to do. Now, how many products can you say that about?

Update - After about a year, the "buttons" started to flake then eventually crack. It still worked but looked pretty bad. I evntually got rid of it and now use a simpler french press.

I have been searching for a coffee maker for weeks now. I've read many reviews about auto drip vs. percolator coffee. Just when I think I've made up my mind, I read a review that changes my mind. Although the reviews stated that auto drip is far better than percolated coffee, I just loved the look of this pot.The good reviews on Amazon swayed me even further. I bit the bullet, and bought the pot. I really do like it. I can't find any major complaints and the coffee tastes great. The only thing not great about it, is that you need to remove the basket after the coffee is done perking. No big deal, but its a hot job! All in all, the pot is a wonderful addition to our new kitchen and matches our stainless stove, fridge and dishwasher just great!

All the great coffee-making ability of the "corded" Farberware percolator that we have been using for years, plus the convenience of having NO CORD to deal with. You can't imagine what a joy it is to be able to lift your percolator and move it about in the same way that you have been able to do for years with those wimpy drip coffee makers! The top has a clear knob that allows viewing of the coffee as it percs - just like in the good old days. Amazon's low price was the same amount that I paid years ago in a local retail store for my corded Farberware coffee pot.

A friend and I had a religious discussion about the best type of coffee maker, and I was shocked that he was so adamant that the old percolator still makes the best coffee. So, having had enough of my piece-of-junk Krups, I decided to treat myself to this unit. Let me tell you, the coffee is bar-none the best I've ever tasted. Standard store bought coffee never tasted so GREAT. Plus, the coffee comes out piping hot (which is a big plus in my book). I highly recommend this coffee maker to anyone who truly knows how to enjoy a fine cup of joe.

Fortunately I didn't have an electrical fire .... Unfortunately this replacement only lasted until July 2, 2001. This time it stopped in the middle of a brew. The coffee was luke warm and it never started up again. We brew one pot a day. ....

First, it would brew inconsistantly, ( refused to brew if I only made five cups)then the programable clock would not set and lastly, and finally, it just won't start at all. I would think I have a lemon, but it worked for about a year. I had a GE that I bought at resale shop that I had for seven years and it made great coffee every day until its death. Worse yet I can not reach Farberware to complain about this product.

While I really liked the cordless and timer features in this coffee maker, the quality is absolutely horrible!!! I have been through two of these coffeepots and my mother has been through one. All of them had broken within a year with the electrical connections burning out. My guess is that that people who wrote in that loved this coffee maker have only owned it a short time. I loved it and raved about it until I have seen three of them break. Unless you feel like spending [dollar amount] on a coffee pot every 6 to 12 months, stay away from this one!!

I received this coffee maker as a father's day gift last year (2001). At first everything went ok, coffee tasted excellent, then one day it decided to not work anymore. The clock still works but thats about all. I'm pretty good with my hands so I took it upon myself to see if I could repair the coffee pot. I too found corrosion on the wires. Upon closer inspection I also found a melted piece of something around two of the six electrical connectios inside the pot. I don't know what those burnt pieces were but I can tell you that the coffee pot is in the garbage. For the amount you pay for this you would think that the product be more durable and not so cheaply assembled.

It looks cool. After setting it up, I must admit that the clock mechanism is a bit cheesy. The programming is not that user friendly or cohesive to the rest of the design.
Once we got it all set up, it made good coffee that was very hot. That's the good part.
This pot worked for about 7 months. That is completly unacceptable for the cost of this pot.
Summary- It was good while it lasted, but I'm going back to my old drip machine, it my wife didn't put it out for the garage sale.
PS. I emailed the consumer help people, they took 30-days to respond, and told me I might be able to mail it in for warranty repairs. Too little, way too late.

->Buy Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Cordless Percolator

I love this coffee pot.

Unfortunately, I've gone through 2 of them in 1.5 years. There must be a design flaw that allows water to get into the heating elements in the base of the pot. After a while(usually less then 1 yr), the electronics and wires corrode, and it will no longer work. I know that this is what happens, as I pulled my first one appart hoping to fix it. Alas, it was such a mess, I threw it in the trash(no hope of warranty once I pulled it appart).

I loved the pot, so I went for #2. Bought it at Macy's, and got a good price. I lasted about 11 months then died. No sense ripping it appart. Could not find receipt for 2 months, but Macy's was great, and took it back even after the 1 yr period. They had no more in stock, so they gave me all my money back. Very cool.

I bought my Mother one from Amazon.com about 8 months ago. It's still ticking.

Anyway, I've been without a coffee pot for months now, and I'm going to break down and get #3 for my home. No other product seems to cut it for me, so I'll hope for the best. I'll buy it from Macy's, as they seem pretty good about returns. Cant imagine having to mail it away somewhere.

->Buy Now Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Cordless Percolator

Why is it so difficult to find a perculator with a timer? When my parents' 30-old Farberware perculator finally died, my wife & I decided to replace it with a programable perculator, thus we purchased this model. In its short (under 2 years!) lifespan, while it made a good cup of coffee, it was disapointing for 3 reasons. (1) It was difficult to program the clock and timer. The directions were worthless and the only way to program the timer was to hit several of the buttons several times in "just the right manner." (2) The buttons cracked and blistered after about a year. (3) The darn thing died after less then 2 years. While I wasn't expecting it to last 30 years, I was hoping for more then 2.

Unfortunately, almost all coffee makers with timers are drips, which makes inferior coffee to perculators, so if you're looking for a timer, you're stuck with this one. Aside from this model, I haven't seen another perculator with a timer, meaning I may have to bite the bullert and live with a perc without a timer (I won't buy this one again). If you're desperate for a perc with a timer, you can take your chances with this model. Otherwise, keep looking.

It definitely made hot flavorful coffee. We went out to buy a replacement but decided to go with a very nice auto drip Cuisinart, and are thrilled with it. I must say I am VERY happy with the quality of the brewed coffee produced by this percolator. The brewed coffee is far superior to ANY drip coffemaker and, believe me, I've tried them all. The brewed coffee is akin to that produced in a coffee press--amazing since I never thought a coffee machine of any kind could produce the taste equivalent of coffee from a coffee press. Some have expressed disappointment with the base unit "burning out" and needing to be replaced. The inside of the coffee pot where the tube rests must be kept clean of residue. I think if you do that, you won't have a problem with the unit. I highly recommend this percolator if you want great tasting hot coffee.

But, I realised that after about 1 year, it would not heat as it did new. The element on the base and perc are not well protected, even when being the most cautious while washing.

Then, just 3 weeks ago I was removing the top and the handle broke off. Now this unit, because there are no replacements available, is completely useless.

Maybe next time a manufacturer will think to include a metal piece attached to a metal piece rather than plastic attached to metal. It would last longer! Or, is that the point!

this is a great item! finally, we have hot coffee!!! so many of the amazon.com reviews said that this pot would break I was afraid to buy it. Now that I've had it a few months I see it is a great product...but perhaps the unhappy buyers were too haphazard in their cleaning. Some amazon.com reviewers said the plastic percolator top piece fell off and couldn't be replaced. To avoid this happening I just rinse it off and put it aside (not piled up in the drying rack). How could it brake there? It will be fine! Also, I just rinse the pot out after each use just like I would rinse a glass container EXCEPT I avoid getting the bottom wet. This isn't hard! It's a good product and I'm buying another today for a second home.
Hint: when you are comparing this pot to others note that this pot is programable and only gives a little "beep" when it's done. While looking for an item that makes HOT coffee I orignally bought a cuisinart programmable pot with that had an insulated carafe. I returned it because the "beep" sounded like a smoke detector and was really unnerving to wake up to!

The new base died with in a couple of months at the most--it simply stopped making coffee altogether. They had enough and tossed it out for the classic *corded* perk pot.

There are lots of similar reviews scattered throughout these customer reviews, so this is not an isolated experience. I have no doubt that a lot of the people who wrote positive reviews were doing so in the first couple of weeks of owning their pots---my parents couldn't say enough nice things about this coffee pot in the beginning.

Luckily I had learned my lesson and kept various of the other parts to the other two models. So I pulled out the top from the last one and was ready to go. I purchased this percolator about a year ago. My husband and I love a good cup of coffee and feel that percolated coffee far outweighs drip coffee for flavor and richness. This product doesn't disappoint! The coffee is flavorful and hot and is brewed quickly and consistantly. We haven't had any problems other than the same one mentioned below,(the only reason it doesn't get five stars) that the buttons tend to blister a little bit. Ours still works normally though and the blistering isn't bad enough to bother me. As for breaking parts, we haven't experienced that at all, though the problem could be caused by washing this in the dishwasher. A little advice: Don't put items with electrical components in the dishwasher, they aren't made for it. And truly, I wouldn't even recommend using soap on this. There is a process that works in metal coffepots that is similar to cast iron and stainless steel cookware in which they are "seasoned" with use, i.e., the flavor gets better with time if kept free of detergents. We simply rinse our pot and it's basket in hot water after each use. It stays clean and the flavor of the coffee isn't compromised. I'm so glad someone finally makes a percolator with a timer! Now we get to wake up to the smell of hot coffee. Yum!

Review: Great Tasting Coffee, but Problematic
by: JosieDahling on date: December 21, 2003

->Wholesale Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Cordless Percolator

I have always loved percolated coffee rather than drip...it brings me back to my childhood when Mom and Dad used an old Corning percolator. It's hard to find a decent percolator these days. The old Cornings are gone (although you can probably buy a used one). I tried this Farberware 12-cup programmable about one year ago. The first problem that occurred was that the buttons to program the timer started to "crack" and "peel"...they were still usable, but it was unsightly consdering how much I spent on this product. The buttons themselves are microscopic. If you have trouble seeing, these buttons will frustate you to no end! The coffee tastes GREAT, but you still have the pesky grounds-in-the-coffee problem. Now, with only one year of usage, the top percolator part has completely snapped off, rendering it completely useless. It was definitely not worth the money to only get one year's use out of it. I expected better quality and am disappointed. I give it a 3, because the coffee IS very good.

->Cheap Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Cordless Percolator

Whereas I agree with those who have commented on this product's durability issues, your experience will depend on the application. In my case, I brought the coffee pot to work, where I brew one small (6 cups) pot a day. I haven't had the problems with the programming buttons (cracking and peeling) or the top knob coming off. I will admit that this pot is rather "dainty" and not recommended for "extreme" home use. However, if you want a consistently hot, strong and fast cup of coffee, this is a great coffee maker!

I also dislike the "grounds in the cup" syndrome, and tried to combat this by customizing a round filter. Unfortunately, the filter only clogged the drip mechanism and caused the coffee to overflow the basket, forcing even MORE grounds into the coffee! Keep the basket clean and the problem is minimized. Overall, one of the best cups of home brew I have ever made!

I loved this coffee maker. I thought I had arrived and I was going to grow old with it. Boy was I wrong. Coffee maker number one died at 13 months (heater element died), with a 12 month warranty, that did not put me in a good place, but I raised enough stink and got a new one.

Nine months later, number two did the same exact thing, and this time there was no warranty because the period had expired and I had already cashed in on number one.

So I called the company. Farberware does not exist though, it is a subsidiary of some other company now. I gave my complaint and they told me that it was too bad. Too bad I said? Yes, too bad because my warranty had expired. OK, so how about a replacement heater element, I'll install it myself if I have to. Can't do that because they don't have access to the individual parts. Oh, so Smurfs must put the parts in while nobody is looking and they just start to heat up? Sir, I am sorry but I can't help. Well this is junk and you shouldn't be selling it, what happened to the Farberware of the past? Oh sir, (this is the kicker)it all went down hill when they sold out, all the parts are from China.

Woo, stop the press. Lets just blame the Chinese now for you putting cheap parts in an expensive percolator.

I would have given this product a zero if I could. Farberware is the worst company in the world and I will never buy another of their products. As for the Chinese, I will continue to shop with them.

Review: FARBERWARE AFTER SALTON
by: Jennie on date: August 23, 2004

->Best Price Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Cordless Percolator

8/31/04 UPDATE: I spoke to Salton yesterday. I just couldn't bear the fact that I would have to junk a $100.00 coffeepot that was supposed to be under warranty for one year. After asking me some preliminary information I was told, and I quote, "that because I make 2 pots of coffee a day it is overuse, or rather, not the products intended use". I just hung up the phone. I have not been making 2 pots of coffee for years with this machine. I've owned it for 8 months and it has only been used 6 of those months. I should have known. It will go in the trash and I will go to esalton website where they list every brand name that they actually make so I can be sure NEVER to buy one of their products again.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:I had a Farberware perculator for 10 years. When it finally gave out I went through a drip pot, but yearned for a perk one. I bought this one thinking I would not have to worry about coffee makers for another 10 years. After 2 months of use the plastic top broke right off the lid. I called the number, thinking I was going to be dealing with a class act company and instead am talking to Salton (these are the same people who told me I needed to make coffee in the nursery in order to get the clock to work on a Melitta drip maker I bought in the interim). Ok, they tell me that the broken top is considered normal wear and tear (yes, even after 2 months) and I would have to buy another. I did. Now I am sorry that I spent the $6.00 for it because this is month 8 (keep in mind it was not used for 6 weeks while I waited for the lid) and now it is dead. Also, the coating on the start button is peeling and it is sharp. Another great looking piece of junk from Salton. I can't recommend and will not buy Farberware small appliances or Melitta brand small appliances any longer because you can't go by the former good names of companies. And I will now have my doubts about buying any other type of product with the Farberware name on it because I don't trust it any longer and am rather shocked that they would allow their good name on shoddy products. I spent $99.00 at a department store for something that worked for less than a year, well less than 6 months if you count the time it was not being used. So I will try and find a new pot and read the box carefully to make sure "Salton" isn't anywhere on it. I will never buy anything that has that name on it.

I purchased my first pot in 2001 and loved the pot. The coffee would be ready when I woke up at 3:30 am and would be very hot and fresh. After only 6 months I started having problems with the first pot. The coffee was no longer hot. Than the pot stopped working altogether. So, I purchased another one, thinking I had a lemon. Four pots later I realize they all do the same thing, work fine for 6 to 8 months than stop working at all. I will no longer purchase any farberware product.

Review: *Percolated* coffee???
by: Michael J Edelman on date: January 8, 2005

->Comparison Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Cordless Percolator

For the first 19 years of my life, I thought that coffee was a nasty, bitter, burnt tasting beverage, and could not understand why anyone would drink it. I became a dedicated tea drinker.

Then one day I ordered a cup of coffeed out and had a revelation. What was this delicious nectar? Coffee isn't a nasty, bitter beverage after all. *Percolated* coffee, now that's a nasty thing. Percolating keeps reboiling coffee that's already been brewed, driving out the aromatic compounds that give it a rich flavor, and burning what remains. Hence the nasty bitter result.

Now, thanks to technological innovation and new technology, Farberware gives you the opportunity to produce nasty, bitter coffee anywhere. Am I missing something?

Review: Percolation is to drip brew as microwave is to flame grill
by: D. V. Gulliver on date: January 8, 2005

->Price Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Cordless Percolator

A friend of mine is obsessed with this garbage. I think the brew the spews forth tastes like pig swill. Percolation is a mass-production method of coffee making. Saying you like the taste of percolation is like saying you like the taste of mass-market macro-production artificially flavored processed cheese-food. The only, and I mean ONLY use for a percolation coffee maker is the need to make a whole ton of coffee fast, like at a huge buffet or something. And even then, if you have even a halfway decent budget, you can buy a restaurant-style Bunn drip brewer that will fill a coffee pot in under a minute, making it easy to keep brewing fresh hot coffee. DO NOT FALL FOR THE HYPE! Get a real drip coffee brewer, or better yet, a press. And if you think the coffee you make tastes too strong and bitter, then ironically you need to use MORE coffee, not less. Here is the secret: the more water to coffee you have, the more soluble the bitter acids in the beans become. A lot of water and a little coffee means that ALL the flavor of the grounds, including the nasty bitter acids, leak out. By using a lot more coffee, only the most easily dissolved compounds, which happen to be where the good flavors are, can make it into the water--meaning good flavor. If you doubt me, try this: make a pot of coffee using double the grounds you normally use (or the max you can put into the machine if it isn't made to handle that much). Make one pot this way. You don't get double strength, because the water quickly becomes saturated to its maximum coffee flavor holding potential. Instead, you get a totally different flavor--the flavor of good coffee minus the nasty bitter acids (easier on the tummy, too!). Never, ever, ever ever EVER buy this product because it makes not a tasty coffee beverage but a nasty bitter thick ugly gritty ACK that, unfortunately, is what too many people out there thing coffee is.

Like many others here, I have another dead Farberware coffee pot. First one lasted an astounding 2 whole years before no heat - purchased in '02. Thinking as others have, I assumed a lemon and bought another in May of `'04 - this one didn't even finish the year before not heating the coffee.

UpDate Feb. '06 - Make this 3-Dead Ones. The unit is no longer making hot coffe and requires a kick in the pants with the microwave. I have emailed Farberware for a return - Again. We will see where it leads...

The only reason I am giving 2-stars is that there was no hassle with the warranty. A pre-paid shipping label was provided and a new pot is on the way. I do believe I will research quality drip machines for my next purchase. They have the same (or better) features as this unit. Probably better - as I have always found it kind'a convoluted the key sequence you enter to set the brew time on the Farberware unit.

For those that care about the Farberware products of past, I drove by the former Farberware plant in the Bronx last week. It's a pile rubble. History. From what I understand, Farberware products have been made in China (or somewhere outside US) for several years now.

Now I don't know if this has anything to do with the quality of Farberware products - but they don't seem to be holding up to the Farberware products my parents swore by.

Despite the mixed review of this coffee maker, I purchased it. It lasted about a year. I love the design, especially the electrical base which allows for the transport of the hot pot of coffee without unplugging. I also love perk coffee. Unfortunately, the machine did not hold up.

The glass bulb at the top is no longer glass, it's plastic. It broke off. Also, the buttons on the base have begun to crack.

Now I'm back on Amazon coffee-maker shopping.

I was a bit hesitant to buy this percolator after reading some of the reviews, which seem to swing in two extremes: people either love it or hate it. I have since decided that the people who love it grew up on percolated coffee, which I did, and the people who hated it just don't know any better. If you're looking for a good, hot cup of coffee that tastes like real coffee, buy this percolator. I find myself getting up earlier just so I can enjoy two cups of this wonderful percolated coffee (when before I could barely stomach one cup from my KitchenAid Coffee Brewer). ->Affordable Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Cordless Percolator

A rule of thumb, coffee snobs will tell you, is that you never ever use a percolator to make coffee. They say use a press. I don't like presses, they taste funny, and driped coffee is too cold.

This is a great machine. It features contemporary styling, ease of use, and is full featured. It has a digital clock to tell time, and allows you to set your daily timer so you can have fresh coffee when you wake up. It's 2 hour auto-shut off feature is great as I'm always forgetting to turn it off.

It is great for entertaining because you can brew your coffee in the pot, and then remove it from the base for cordless serving. The stainless body looks much better than walking around to your dinner guests with a glass carafe.

The lid, brew basket, and inside parts are dishwasher safe, though you are not to immerse the pot itself in water.

It makes 4-12 cups of coffee quickly, roughly a minute a cup, so 8 cups will take 8 minutes to brew. I suggest making at least 6 cups, because any less you don't get optimum flavor, plus you'll want to drink more than one cup.

Now I buy my beans fresh roasted and whole bean. I only grind what I am about to immediatly drink, and of the several ways I've tasted this coffee of mine, it tastes best in this machine.

It is a nice priced machine with a great combination of features, ease of use, durability and looks.

This percolater makes great coffee and I was very happy with it until it broke within two years. Actually the first thing that broke was the little plastic knob on the top. I called the company and they were very nice about it. They quickly sent me a replacement part. I thought, what a great company. Then when it would not work one morning just a little over two years after I bought it I called them again. They explained that it was no longer under warranty (I think I missed the warranty term by a month or two.) They offered that I could purchase a refurbished one from them for about half the price of the original (I paid about $70.00, a refurbished one was, I think, $35.00) but it came with no warranty and I'd have to pay shipping. I was very, very disappointed. Thankfully, I had my old drip coffee maker in the attic. I pulled that out and have been using it although it does not make as good a cup of coffee as this percolator did.
This product should have lasted me years. I am looking for another good cordless percolator but would not consider another product by this company. I gave it the two star rating instead of one because it did truly make a good cup of coffee but the two year life is just not worth the cost.

->Lowest Price Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Cordless Percolator

I have always loved the taste of coffee from a perculator but hated not having a timer on them. I bought drip coffee makers for that purpose only. The problem with drip coffee is it doesn't have the flavor perked coffee has and, with my hard water, I was having to buy a new one every 3 months. The Farberware 12 cup cordless has solved my dilema. It has worked very well so far and I have my perked coffee flavor back.

->Price Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Cordless Percolator

Biggest P.O.S. I've ever wasted money on. Plastic top went after two months-quit completely after about 1 yr. For all of you who bought a second one, thinking that the first one was a lemon, just remember: fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!

->Deal Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Cordless Percolator

I was sceptical about getting a new Farberware perculator since the knob on the lid broke off the Farberware I had before. It was only over a year old and it was impossible to get the replacement part. However, I was attracted to this one because it was cordless and had an automatic shut-off, which I had never seen before with a perculator. It's great and the lid on this is much easier to remove than the previous one. It also has a timer program which I haven't been able to master yet, but it's something I really don't need.
