Review: The best Coffee Pot Ever!
by: BJ on date: June 28, 2007

->Affordable Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black

I have had the Hamilton Beach Brew Station for about 4 years. It makes the best coffee. My whole family now owns one because of mine. The only minor problems are that it is hard to find replacement charcoal filters (a great feature of the pot)and...which is maybe due to age...it does drip a few times after filling up and messy. But hey four years is a record for a coffee pot in our house! Love the timer also.

I had this coffeemaker for nearly 3 years and have used it constantly for the last 2. I love the convenience, ease of cleaning and ease of use. The coffee is hotter than any carafe, never burns and is kept hot for up to 2 hrs. If it cools down, a push of the button and the coffee is heated back up again slowly and cleanly.

I loved it so much when my mother's old braun quit, I bought her one. At first she was skeptical, now she can't live without it. Can't recommend enough.

This is the best coffee pot I've ever owned. There is no glass carafe to chip, break or clean. It makes coffee quickly and there is no mess on my counter to clean or exterior of the machine. It is easy to make coffee and if it turns itself off, it heats up the coffee again quickly when you turn it back on. I love it.

->Compare Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black

When our office needed a new coffee maker after breaking its third glass carafe, we tried this machine. It really is ideal for small offices. Because it automatically turns off after 2 hours, there is no more burnt coffee/carafe from someone leaving it on too long! Admittedly, it does drip a drop or two after pouring a cup, but there is a drip reservoir that catches that, and it is very easy to clean. Also, at a glance you can see how much coffee is left - while with a thermal carafe you are always guessing whether the person in front of you took the last of the coffee.

Without hesitation I'd buy it again for the office.

I had an old Mr. Coffee 2-Cup brewer that I thought was great until I tried the Brewstation. The water filters make the coffee taste noticably more smooth. My favorite thing about this coffee maker, however, is the design. The reservoir is so easy to take out and throw into the dishwasher that cleaning is painless. Yeah, they say you can't put it in the dishwasher but after several months of doing just that, everything is still great. I also like the fact that the entire brewer is lightweight, so it's easy to move around the counter. The built-in gold filter is okay by itself but a little hard to wash out the coffee grains, so I tend to still use a paper filter to save some time. An excellent machine!

I was weary about this coffee maker because of the "drip" comments. But, a local "day after Thanksgiving" sale had this maker at a price that made it practical to try. Mine, however, does not have the clocks or settings--doesn't matter to me. I was utterly amazed with the product. It made great coffee! It kept the coffee hot! It didn't have a carafe to break! (I replaced it 3 times on my high-priced Mr. Coffee and was ready for a 4th.) After several months of daily use, I'm still extremely pleased and would tell anyone, "This is the one to buy!"

That was the reason we bought it and it's great. Within a minute of starting the coffee maker your first cut is ready. Easy to clean too. I did note that the model number was different than on on the Hamilton Beach web site and called them. I can't speak highly enough of the HB Customer service folks. They answered all my questions honestly and were very pleasant. It seems that this particular model is being phased out (hence a low price on Amazon) because some folks felt the clock was too hard to read. I have enough clocks in my kitchen (microwave as well as oven) so I didn't want the clock to tell me the time. I wanted it for rare occassions when I wanted auto-start. And this clock is just fine.

The coffee tastes, great. I also heard the new models are less tall as you need clearance to open the lid to pour in your water.

I also wanted a HOT cup of coffee. This is hotter than my long term Mr. Coffee but not "Starbucks hot". I'm not sure there are any "under $100." coffee maker which make real hot coffee. We've had this 6 weeks and our Mr. Coffee under the counter maker is sitting idle. Also glad it uses the Mr. Coffee style filters which are MUCH cheaper than Cone style filters (even generic brands.)

We paid $40.00 for this on Amazon and felt we got a good product for a good price. And we got free shipping.

As a serial carafe-shatterer, this carafe-less system was a revelation! You'll never go back to a carafe system again, I guarantee it. Plus, I have to admit, the thing looks pretty cool sitting on our counter! The only quibbles I have - it is a little bulkier than a traditional carafe coffee maker; and, the time display is orientated such that it is hidden if the unit is placed to your right. Other than that, we're very happy with this purchase!

I love my Hamilton Beach BrewStation. It's so cool not having to deal with the old glass decanter's that I was prone to break or seldom clean. Now since I've had my BrewStation, cleaning up is a breeze and not having to deal with the annoying decanter is the biggest plus of all.

The only annoyance I can complain about is the filter. But, as long as you replace it regularly, your coffee will still have that great fresh taste to it.

For those who do not like the decanter style coffee maker's, the BrewStation is for you. Kick the decanter to the curb and grab a BrewStation and I'm sure you'll agree.

This BrewStation makes a really good cup of coffee. After reading the blase reviews and complaints of poor tasting brew, I had second thoughts about ordering it from Amazon. But decided to order it anyway.
Then I read the instructions that came with the BrewStation and thoroughly cleaned it prior to use(as recommeded in the instructions) and the coffee tastes great.
I'd give it 5 stars but it dribbles a little condensate from the back of the lid when opening to clean.

Liked the ease of getting a cup of coffee from the front one at a time but keeping the view window clean was almost a daily job. If they used real glass instead of the porous plastic we could have kept it clean enough to tell if there was coffee in it or not. Made great coffee and the cleaning every other time we used it kept us from giving it a 5 star review.

I love the coffee this machine makes, but mine started leaking after 6 months. I bought this because of the carafe-less design and overall, it's very easy to use and maintain. I'm sure the newer model might be an improvement, but I decided to switch to the Cuisinart Coffee on Demand (DCC-2000) coffee maker. So far, no problems and the coffee is delicious. Plus, I love the look of the Cuisinart. Good luck with your decision.

->Lowest Price Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black

I received this machine as a gift - it's not something I would have spent my money on. First of all, it takes up a lot of counter space. The second time I used it, I had the infamous spillage all over the counter. After inspection, I discovered that this was due to a couple of grounds being stuck in the valve, which I have to admit was my fault because I was using a cone filter instead of the recommended basket style, hence the overflow of grounds. Problem was solved by turning the carafe over and pressing down on the valve while rinsing under water, as recommended in the instructions. I am weary about when the next overflow will happen, so I use it right next to the sink. I am not too keen on the plastic taste that remains in my mouth after drinking either. Last but not least, you can only fit a normal coffee cup under the spout, nothing tall (travel mug, etc.). I would recommend this to the average coffee drinker that doesn't care too much about taste or temperature and that only drinks out of regular size cups.

->Compare Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black

I loved the idea, but my experience was such that I went back to a traditional coffeemaker. The problems were: if you break the bucket that the coffee brews into you have to buy a new unit, no replacement carafes. It would seem like it would be hard to break, but the dishwashing member of my family broke two when they fell off the dishrack onto the floor. The second problem is the plastic bucket (carafe) is hard to clean and will quickly stain. This is not only unappealing visually, it begins to effect the taste of the coffee as it gets that I've-been-hanging-out-in-old-plastic-taste.

This is a great product! I will never go back to a regular coffee maker.
And it is easy to clean! When the plastic gets stained just put some hot water in it along with some automatic dishwashing detergent. Let it sit for thirty minutes and just wipe out with a damp sponge. Easy! No stains, and it looks good as new!

I've had this machine for about two years now and we use it at least twice a day. I love the timer, just set it at night and wake up to an already brewed pot of coffee. The best part is the cleaning... only clean the caraffe. NOTHING runs through the machine but water so you don't get residue like other machines. I found the other ones get mildewy and running vineger through a machine affects the taste of the coffee. However, do not let it sit up or the coffee will not taste right.
I found the glass ones get mildewy and running vineger through a machine affects the taste of the coffee. That's why I recommend this model, nothing runs through it but water therefore there's no residue to clean.
One thing I'd suggest-- replacement pieces. A plastic piece just broke on the caraffe (from dropping it on the floor) and the company doesn't offer the replacement part, but I'm definately staying with this model. Coming from a family who use to drink 4 pots a day and go through 3 coffee makers a year, this one is reliable, easy matainence and you'll never have to buy another coffee pot, unless you drop it on the floor.

This is definitely not your conventional coffee maker. It is pretty to the eyes, but most of all, it tastes absolutely wonderful! The coffee served from this maker could easily be passed as a Starbucks brew. I was convinced to buy this when I saw and tasted it at a neighbor's house. She then said it was reasonably priced as well. After checking online at all the sites available, Amazon's of course beat all other prices. This truly is a great buy. Besides the marvelous taste that all comment on, it is the perfect alternative for coffee drinkers who are not morning people. Because it can be programmed to start brewing, shuts off after two hours, and you can get your coffee while it is still brewing, we morning rushers can still have our favorite coffee that gives that needed kick. The only complaint is the lack of clarity in the cleaning directions that came with the coffee maker. This was not impossible though and overcoming the confusing and inadequate technical writing is well worth it.

Review: A matter of taste...
by: JTgonzo on date: September 7, 2006

->Best Price Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black

This is a nice idea and a nice looking unit, but the taste of the brew is noticeably different from what I get from my old unit with a glass carafe. I think the glass is the key. This unit brews into a plastic resevoir, and it seems that the plastic imparts some taste to the coffee.

The resevoir also is not as well sealed and insulated as a standard thermos, so the coffee cools fairly quickly if you turn the brewstation off. If you leave it on, the coffee is kept warm with a heating element that produced the same burned flavor over time as leaving the carafe on the hot plate of a typical unit.

So three stars for a nice idea and a good looking unit, but you sacrifice taste and it doesn't keep the brew hot long enough.

STAY AWAY The service is bad!

I emailed customer no service about our Brewstation (leakstation) coffeemaker. I told them the valve was cleaned with alcohol and a q-tip it still leaked, I told them It has continued to leak after cleanings! Nice countertop messes, they sent me this canned email after two days. What part of my appliance is leaking I have cleaned it and it still leaks don't they understand. I even sent them copies of reviews stating I had the same problem as all these other people. I really hate canned email. I would almost rather be ignored. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF !*&#!!!

Thank you for contacting us!

The following two trouble shooting tips should solve your leaking problem. Please try the following tips:

Check to make sure the seal is in place in the bottom of the brew tank. If the seal is missing, we will send you a replacement seal.

Check to make sure the seal is properly seated in the bottom of the tank. (Loose coffee grounds can settle under the seal in the bottom dispensing area of the tank. Grounds under the seal will cause the tank to drip.) To flush trapped grounds please clean the tank and dispensing area with cold water. Next test the seal by drying the tank and then adding a cup of cold water, hold it over the sink. If the tank no longer drips, the problem is solved. If the tank continues to drip, your seal may need to be replaced.

If you need further assistance or a replacement seal, please let us know.

I ordered this item through Amazon. When it arrived I followed the instructions for cleaning the unit with the cleaning packet that was included. After running two cycles with clean water I brewed a pot of coffee and it tasted very bad, like rubber or plastic. I thought that this was due to the unit being new. After four or five brew cycles the poor taste persisted and I returned the item for a refund. Additionally, the dispensing spigot leaked a few drops after filling each cup of coffee. I was very disappointed with the product. The brew station is a good idea but it fails to deliver a good cup of coffee.

This coffee maker is fantastic.

You flip the lid, pull out the little bucket that holds the coffee and filter, then lift out the big bucket underneath that holds the water. You fill it up, then dump the water into the resevoir in the back part of the machine. Replace the large bucket. Replace the small bucket inside it and add filter, coffee, and all your hopes and dreams. Turn on.

When your coffee is ready, and you hear that bubbly percolating sound that reminds me of my Boston Terrier looking for a lost piece of kibble, you just push your cup up against a button and the coffee falls carelessly into the cup, stirring up your sugar, your milk, your youthful idealism, etc.

This is perfect for quick warm-ups. The only thing not so great about it is it's not the right height for filling up our Starbucks refillable travel mugs. Apart from that, it's lovely. You can't really say there's no carafe, because the carafe is just up inside the machine. BUT there is a little hole at the bottom of the carafe operated by a spring to make the coffee come out in a pleasing way.

Who else here has a baby in one arm and a cup that needs a coffee warm-up in the other? Perfect product for YOU! :)

The reason I wanted this model is so I could get coffee before the brew cycle is finished. All of the coffeemakers I've owned have dripped when the carafe was removed, even the ones with the "no drip" feature. This has no carafe and dispenses quickly and without mess. I highly recommend it.

I was initially attracted to this machine for its design and the concept of getting one cup of coffee at a time was intriguing.

Pros: REALLY easy to get the coffee in a mug, especially if your hands are full with kids or other distractions. It is easy to set up for brewing. Quite a few people said it tastes like plastic, but I did not notice it. (Then again, in a pinch, I can drink 7-11 coffee, so I am not sure what that says about my taste. :)

Cons: One would have to pour the coffee into a carafe to serve it. If you run out the door with a travel mug, be forewarned that travel mugs do not fit under the dispenser, and you will have to pour it from the top. (If you need to do that, just use a regular coffee maker...it's easier.) While it is easy to clean initially, the plastic stains and some of the pieces inside become 'funkified' (even with scrubbing).

The reason that I don't use it anymore was the numerous mishaps with the travel mugs and the 'funkification' of the inside parts. Kudos to this machine though...it did last longer on my counter than the Grind and Brew.

I've gone through a lot of drip coffee makers and this particular drip machine fits our needs just fine. Some of the previous reviews suggest that the plastic urn imparts a plastic flavor. This is just not so. The coffee comes out smooth and well brewed and stays fresh and warm for several hours. Another good design feature is the simplicity of the timer. Most coffee maker brew timers that I have used are more show than go. This coffee makers timer is very simple and down to the point. Therefore, I am very satisfied with this product and recently purchased one for another family member.

I have the entire family (6 of us live here on one large farm) in for coffee every morning. They all love this coffeemaker.. its dispensing system and the flavor of the coffee that comes out of it. If there is any complaint at all its simply that I cannot turn off the auto shut off (2 hour auto shut off.. safety thing to prevent overheating and fires). I get up early and make coffee... and it turns itself off in 2 hours. Some of my guests dont arrive for 3-4 hours after I make coffee and are sometimes greeted with cool coffee, if I'm not vigilant and turn it back on at the 2 hour mark, so it will keep it hot. All in all It's a great coffeepot!

Review: PLASTIC!!
by: Kermit on date: January 20, 2006

->Deal Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black

I like the design of this machine. It's actually fun to use and I haven't experienced the dripping and other problems that other consumers have. In fact mechanically it works as advertised for me. But I have several comments:

* The worst feature of this machine is the plastic pot. There are stains imbedded in the plastic that I don't expect to ever remove. When you look at the sight level gauge it would appear there are always 3 cups of coffee in the pot, even when it is empty. Two vinegar and water rinses and two water rinses, followed by a cleaning with hot soap and water did not do the trick. Personally I would love to see this machine with a glass pot. But from what I hear in other reviews, a lot of people have been dropping and breaking glass pots. Sounds like a personal problem to me.

* As stated previously, my machine has had no problems after over 2 years of service. It is not too tall to fit under my counter and there are no leak problems. Although the standard paper filters are a little small for the unit, you can still make a pot of coffee without creating a mess if you are careful. I have not been able to find any large paper restaurant-type filters.

* I refuse to pay the asking price for the enclosed water filter. I am considering purchasing a portable water filter for my counter, or possibly a filter for my kitchen faucet.

* I have found that the most important factor in making a good pot of coffee, not matter what brand of coffee maker you use, is consistency. The amount of water and coffee must be carefully measured each time. And if you grind your coffee beans, grind them to the same texture each time. And of course water quality must be good. When you decide the coffee flavor is optimized, stick with these measurements. procedures and ingredients.

* I still haven't decided if the plastic pot is imparting a plastic taste to the coffee. I do know that I don't experience the wonderful aroma while the coffee is brewing that I first experienced after buying the unit.

* With other coffee maker designs, the paper filter and coffee beans will be dry after 1-2 hours. With this machine the filter and coffee stay moist for hours. I suspect this is due to the inherent sealing of the steamed coffee in the pot. Thus it is possible to have a fairly good cup of coffee two hours later; even longer if you should decide to use a microwave.

I like this coffee maker, especially after I figured out that I have to buy the restaurant style larger filters. The standard ones will not suffice as the grounds will get into the coffee, lodge into the server part and you will get a continuing leak. THAT WAS AN EPISODE OR 2 OF AMERICAS FUNNIEST HOME/SCHOOL VIDEOS! I have never had the problem once I bought the right filter. Remember, GET THE LARGE 12 CUP FILTERS. In my town Kroger is the only store that sells them.Called Restaurant Style.
I use a 1/8 cup coffee scoup and use 5 heaping scoupfulls for a 12 cup pot and the coffee is perfect. I fill the water level right below the slots right inside the lid.
I keep it at school and make coffee for the teachers. THEY LOVE MY COFFEE! The dispenser is great because as teachers always do, kids come and get coffee for them and this eliminates the kids pouring coffee.

We were originally very pleased with this coffeemaker and thought the idea was unique. It did seem to work well for the first year. And then we lost the ability to program the clock. Since this was once of the more important features (programmed brew time), we ran down to our discount store and purchased another. Within a very short time, we noticed that the timer seemed unreliable but would be "fixed" by unplugging and resetting the clock. This happened several times, but not with enough consistency to throw out the coffee maker. We reached one year and 5 days on the second coffeemaker before the clock/timer malfunctioned and it would no longer brew. Needless to say, we have chosen a different coffee maker this time and truly feel that there is something wrong with the clock assembly. Customers should be able to expect a coffeemaker to last longer than a year. I would not buy this coffeemaker unless you just like to replace your coffeemaker every year!

3. Easy one touch operation

Cons
1. Programed to shut off after 2 hours

3. Clock on the machine is to small and in the wrong place

Overall, I would not own this coffee maker if I had not gotten it for free.

I was desperate for a new coffeemaker and I found one of these on sale for a decent price, so I decided to give it a shot.

It was easy to setup and easy to use. Everything worked properly and I had no problems with the quality of the coffeemaker or the process of setting it up.

But what matters the most is: does the coffee taste good? Sadly, it did not. It tasted like chemicals and plastic. I tried four different brands of coffee, and they all had the same weird, chemicaly, plasticky taste. And yes, I did clean the coffeemaker thoroughly, following the manufacturer's instructions, before using it for the first time.

I really did like the concept of this coffeemaker and the way it worked, but if the coffee is going to taste like plastic, there's no way I'm going to drink it. Back to the store it goes.

It brews at a perfect temperature, and the easy one hand filling feature is great! Only when you retreive your last cup does it drip, but if you get used to it, you know to hold your cup there an extra few seconds. Also, I'm not sure what the water filter is for inside, but I only use water that has been run through my brita filter anyway, so I do not plan on replacing that internal filter.

I bought my first one last Thanksgiving. By February, the pump stopped working. I contacted Hamilton Beach, I had to pay the $7+ for shipping for them to replace it. I received my new one after a couple of weeks. About two weeks ago, same problem, the pump stopped working. HB is replacing it with the same $7+ charge.

I don't particularly care for the size of the unit; it takes up a lot of counter space. It also takes a while to cool down, so if you're efficient and want to clean and set up for the next day, you'll have to wait.

However, I love the idea of not having a carafe. And it's definitely much easier to clean.

As long as HB keeps sending me new ones, I'll keep using it.

Edit: 5/8/2006 - Our third one just died. I wouldn't recommend this item to anyone. HB customer service requires you to pay for shipping, both ways, to send it back until THEY decide they will send you a *new one, which is going to break in a couple of months anyway. JUNK!!!!!

Can someone recommend a coffee make that will last at least a year?

I had a Black and Decker under the counter coffee maker for the past five years and I decided to replace it with the BrewStation. As far as I'm concerned this coffee maker is great! I'm sorry to read some of the poor reviews on it because I haven't had any of the problems mentioned in earlier reviews. What I like best about this coffee maker is the coffee comes out HOT! Much hotter than coffee makers with the carafe. This was a big plus for me because I use liquid creamer that I keep in the fridge and it always lowered the temperature of my coffee. This doesn't happen with the BrewStation.

If I've had any problems with this machine at all, they've turned out to be my own fault, not the machine's. So far it hasn't leaked from the spout, nothing has cracked or broke, and the brewing time is a lot faster than my old coffee maker. If you follow the directions that come with the machine, you get a GREAT cup of coffee. My only complaint is with the "Permanent Gold Tone Filter" that I got free with the coffee maker. If your machine didn't come with a free one, don't waste your money purchasing this item. The water runs through this filter so fast it doesn't take time to brew the coffee and you end up with very weak coffee. You're better off using the paper filters. This machine makes coffee FAST, it's convenient to use, and it's easy to clean.

This coffee maker is a big disappointment for the following reasons:

- Coffee Filter Insert Sits on top of Hot coffee. Very Hot when you go to empty.

- The process of making coffee is cumbersome , feels like your mixing cement.

- The unit get dirty and stained to easily

- Hard to tell if the unit is on brew vs timed brew

- Clock is too small.

- Hot Coffee sits in plastic, yuk yuk yuk.

_ When Emptying coffee out of the unit it is very possible to burn your hands, if you are dumping out hot coffee the steam burns your hands when holding onto the handle, And if you are not careful you can burn your hands on the bottom heating plate when tipping the old coffee out.

I bought this coffee maker for the office. I formed a 6-person Peet's club, where each person is responsible for buying 1 pound of Peet's every 6 weeks. The program? Moderately successful. Then I changed coffee makers from a basic Krups model to this one. The program now? A wild success. I got more people interested in the program on the basis of the improved taste and flavor of the coffee. Two people in my group, in particular, are almost painfully silent when it comes to expressing their opinions and they came up to me to make special mention of how great the coffee tastes, so that's really saying something. Someone outside the group found out about our exclusive coffee club with an exotic new coffee maker, and he would not rest until he got a "membership".

It is not any more difficult to clean this machine than the old one. I love that there is no more burnt coffee smell that permeates the room if someone forgets to turn the machine off. The coffee temperature stays hot enough if left on. But the best part: No one spills because there is no carafe to pour out of! And there's nothing to break! It's so easy to clean and only rarely requires anything close to a deep cleaning. Most days, just a simple rinse will do. We've had this for 3 weeks and people are still talking about how much they love it. I love that it's a 12-cup maker; I rejected all 10-cup makers and I would have been so sad if they made this in only a 10-cup model.

By the way, if you already use filtered water (we have a water cooler that uses bottled spring water) there is no need to mess around with the water filter that they include. And definitely don't spring for the refills! You're better off just using bottled water!

->Best Price Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black

I love this coffee maker; we are getting another one as our first finally bit the dust. A few caveats: if you wash out the "bucket" and aren't careful you can dislodge the little rubber "ring" at the bottom. And it will leak. But this is an easy fix and whenever I wash the thing out (I usually just rinse it) i check the ring to make sure it's where it should be. Once a bit of coffee ground was stuck under the ring and it leaked; that's all of the problems we've had. The other issue is the height of the cup; we positioned our coffee maker at the edge of the counter so we can hold our taller cups under the dispenser at an angle and it's not a problem. I think they should make the clock timer thing easier to see; in certain light it's really hard to read.
But the coffee is great; it stays hot without cooking. It's easy to clean; I mus admit that I've never cleaned the water reservoir. And I've broken more carafes than I care to recall; no problem with this coffee pot.
The pump seems to have given out on our first model, then again I never ran any vinegar and water soultion through it which might have kept it going awhile longer. Still we had it two years; my husband had reservations when I first brought it home but when it broke he wouldn't hear of any other maker.

And when the machine shuts off after 2 hours, I just turn it back on again and the coffee stays warm for another 2 hours and still tastes great. I tried every type of coffee from Kona to grocery store coffee.
Perhaps I am missing something but it takes like plastic even the very first cup I ever made so cleaning it with vinegar after the first try seems silly.
I have only made coffee from it a few of times because it is so tasteless and I keep hoping that maybe it was just the type of coffee.

->Deals Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black

Just to make it known, I bought the nearly-identical Sharper Image version of this (the only difference was a fancy copper coffee filter). That was about nine months back - I use it pretty regularly (not every day, but several times a week) and I haven't noticed any kind of slump in performance:

Pros:
* Most importantly, the coffee tastes good, and you can customize to fit your taste pretty easily in the brewing process (I like strong coffee, and some machines can't make it strong enough)
* Brews reasonably quickly if you're on the go
* Easy to clean, everything comes apart
* Makes 1 cup or eight, fills the mug like a soda fountain
* Neat Ikea-ish design
* There's a little water filter, (it's kinda ghetto, doesn't seem to matter much)
* Auto shutoff and a clock timer - you can set it to start brewing five minutes before you wake up in the morning, which is NICE

Cons:
* Kinda big - This is designed for 4-5 cups at a time, and it's gotta be pretty tall to fit a mug under the thing. If you have a small kitchen, be ready to sacrifice some room.

* The spout is only 4-5 inches from the countertop, so if you're trying to fill a tall travel mug or something, it'll take some monkeying around.

* Every couple of months, the brewmaster has a stale taste, even when cleaned regularly (probably because it's almost all plastic). The instructions advise you to "brew" a little white vinegar through the machine, followed by some water, and that seems to do the trick.

All in all, I'm glad I made the purchase. It's a little big for my purposes as I usually only brew a cup at a time unless I have company, but it's nice not having to lift a scalding pot every time you want a cup.

One last note: a couple of people on here have complained about the unit leaking, and that's happened to me too - occasionally a tiny grain of coffee ground will get caught in the spigot, but once you clean it out with a toothpick or something, it dispenses properly again.

->Affordable Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black

We've enjoyed this coffeemaker (it's the model 47234) since July 2005, having used Black and Decker Under the Cabinet models for many years. However, after reading the reviews on the latest B&D model, I decided to switch. The BrewStation caught my eye and compared to the B&D, brews 12 cups much faster and quieter. Also, it's easier to keep clean and we think it makes a better cup of coffee. It also keeps the brewed coffee much hotter, longer, than the B&Ds ever did. I noticed other reviewers of the BrewStation complaining about keeping the bucket clean. That still has not been a problem. Filling the bucket with liquid automatic dishwasher detergent and hot water and letting it sit for an hour or so is still a good remedy: deposits and stains are gone, with no harsh scrubbing. Others have complained about drips. That's not been a problem for us. Because I read all of the reviews, we don't lift the bucket out using the handle. In fact, I have more control filling the reservoir without using the handle. What I don't like: it's a tall unit, but it fits easily under my kitchen cabinets. But, it's tall enough that I have to pull it out to the edge of the countertop to fill the reservoir. I placed a cotton kitchen towel under the unit to avoid scratching my solid-surface countertops, so I can just slide it back and forth. The clock is handy only for the programming feature. It's too small to serve as a useable clock. I would have preferred that Hamilton Beach choose a more practical design for the timer mode. A slowly flashing red light indicates that the unit is in timer mode. When the unit is brewing/on, it's a solid red light. Using different colors would be more helpful. Setting the timer requires that you tap the on/off button once. To forgo the timer requires two taps. Again, a design choice that I would like to see fixed in subsequent models. Our water is filtered, so I don't fool with the water filter included with the unit. Finally, while it's nice to have a coffeemaker make "real-world-sized" cups of coffee, getting the coffee-water ratio took some experimentation. We grind our own beans daily. I've found that 4 scoops of a medium grind works for 12 cups of full-flavored, full-bodied coffee. We brew one 12-cup pot daily, which I don't consider to be excessive use. It's a nice-looking unit and the novelty of "self-serve" hasn't worn off. I like not having a carafe. No breakage to worry about. Following up on my prior review, I've realized I'm saving a little money along the way: with the B & D, we made two 12-cup pots daily but with the BrewStation, one 12-cup pot is more than enough coffee for the two of us. The BrewStation is still working great, stains in the reservoir are still kept at bay simply by using just a small squirt of automatic dishwasher liquid with a full bucket of hot tap water. If you must "scrub" the bucket, do not use the anything other than a soft sponge or a dishcloth. Scrubbers will scratch the plastic and that will trap the stains and they'll be more difficult to remove. All in all, we really like this unit and would purchase another one when this one gives out.

Review: Disappointed

I was disappointed. The reviews were mostly good. The machine is mostly ok. This unit doesn't keep coffee as warm for as long as my old Mr. Coffee with the thermal carafe did. I have to nuke the last couple of cups. And the dispenser dripped right out of the box. I cleaned it properly first and even ran clean water thru before my first pot. But my first pot, drip tray got about half full. Second pot it overflowed about a 1/3rd of a cup of coffee onto the counter. Third pot, just a few drops. Fourth pot, drip tray got full but didn't overflow. Each of the 4 batches was the same amount of water and coffee. And after each pot, I rinsed the tank and ran clean water thru the dispenser in an effort to avoid anything becoming lodged in the dispenser. So, is not an overfilling of coffee or water as was suggested and it's not an 'I'm not keeping it clean' issue as was also suggested The issue is it drips, sporadically, regardless. I've only had it for the above mentioned four pots/days, so I can't speak to durability yet. I like the act of dispensing the coffee, tho. And the coffee tastes good. And I like having the water filter. Bottom line..... drink fast and keep a rag in front of the machine just in case. Oh yeah, you do have to use short cups like everyone said, too. If I had bought this in a brick & mortar I would probably have taken it back. Since I bought it online, I'll keep it till it quits working (a year to a year and a half as most of them do) then try the next new thing on the market.

I loved this coffeemaker when I first purchased it and recommended that all of my friends and family go buy one. It makes a great cup of coffee! Unfortunately, for $50 I would have expected it to last at least a year.

The handle on the water reservoir snapped, not once, but twice, dumping water all over our kitchen floor. The first time we super-glued it as a temporary fix and emailed Hamilton Beach to find out about a replacement part. We never received a response.

About a week later, the handle snapped in another spot. This time we called, and were told it would be $7.50 for them to send a replacement part. For the price we paid, I would have expected it to last much longer, or at least be covered under warranty for the first year.

PROS: Convenient, great cup of coffee.

CONS: Quality and customer service not great, broke in under a year.

I have read some negative reviews, but they must have defective units, because this is one of the best inventions. I will definitely buy another one in the future if it ever breaks. The coffee also always tastes great, even after 4 hours and being reheated in the pot. There is no scorched taste.

So I bought another one thinking, well, there's a lemon in everything I guess. The plastic bail handle broke clear off. I'm a mother of two very young children and I thought that the design of this coffee maker was perfect for me because we're always on the go! First off, I'd like to say that while this coffee maker lasted, it was very nice and I enjoyed its features very much.<br /> <br /> However, this particular machine only lasted six months! The problem with this machine is that even though you hand wash the coffee pot, which also has the valve for the dispensing mechanism built right into it, it will begin to leak. At first, it'll only drip a few drops. After a week or two, of light dripping, mine began to gush. This morning, I brewed a pot and after two cups, most of the rest of the pot had leaked out all over the counter after about an hour! Imagine my shock when I came out to get another cup to find half my coffee in a huge puddle all over my kitchen counter!<br /> <br /> Bottom line: although the design is nice and was an interesting idea, this machine is way too expensive to just up and break after six months! I'm going back to Mr. Coffee coffee makers!!!

Review: The worst coffeemaker I have ever used.
by: Rick on date: April 28, 2005

->Compare Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black

I have used this coffeemaker for a month. I am replacing it over the weekend and will gleefully toss this one into the trash. For three reasons, I think it is the worst coffeemaker I have used.

1. It's Cumbersome. Making a pot of coffee involves these steps:

a. Remove and clean the basket. Don't replace it yet, though.
b. Set the basket aside.
c. Remove and clean the reservoir.
d. Fill the reservoir with a measured amount of cold water.
e. Pour the cold water into the coffeemaker.
f. Replace the reservoir in the coffeemaker.
g. Fill the basket with fresh coffee.
h. Place the basket back on top of the reservoir.
i. Close the lid.
j. Press the on-button.
k. Reposition the coffeemaker on the countertop. The coffeemaker is too big for the lid to open under standard overhanging cabinets with 18" clearance between the counter and the cabinet.
l. Wipe up the mess you made when you put the dripping-wet basket on the counter so you could wash out and refill the reservoir.

There. A pot of coffee in twelve easy steps. There has to be an easier way to make coffee!

2. The opaque plastic reservoir stains easily and gives an unsightly appearance unless you wash it with hot soapy water before every use.

3. It uses about 20% more coffee than my GE coffeemaker used. Where I used to be able to make 8 cups with 4 scoops of coffee I now have to use 5 scoops to get the same flavor.

The dispensing mechanism is novel -- no drips, no broken carafes -- but all in all, this coffeemaker is not a good buy.

->Comparison Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black

I'm not that impressed with this coffee maker at all. I initially bought it because of the promise of keeping the coffee hot. What I experienced with the first one I bought was that it leaked - at the bottom of the water holder, there is a plastic plug that fell out and went down the drain - then it wouldn't hold water. I purchased another one and the plastic plug fell out again, fortunately, grabbed it before it went down the drain. The handle on the basket broke and the timer/clock function stopped working the first week. After several months, I have to press the button several times to get it to complete one cycle of making a full pot. As time went on, sometimes I would get a hot cup of coffee, sometimes, I wouldn't and I'm finding it's taking longer and longer to brew. It's going in the garbage and I'm going back to my Mr. Coffee Maker.

It makes a good cup of coffee and keeps it's original flavor after being on for several hours. However, The handle broke on the plastic coffee container within a few days of use, but we could still make coffee and you can't see the handle so it was no big deal. But, what a mess it makes on the counter! We have to keep a paper towel under it to catch the drips. Their push button coffee is a great concept that needs to be sent back to the drawing board for tweaking. Because of the price, I only knocked off two stars.

This coffee maker is actually great, especially for an small office setting. I have one disappointment with this coffee maker: The clear shield that shows the level of coffee in the pot, is made of plastic and after only a short while, it has stained so badly that you can no longer tell how much coffee is in the pot. Apparently they have worked the kinks out of the drip, drip problem, because I still haven't seen one drip since I bought mine in December 2004. The reason we bought this particular coffee maker was the fact that a person in our household constantly created a mess with the old Bunn coffee maker, and there was a constant clean up! No more! Out with old and in with the new! This makes the best tasting coffee I think I have ever had, and with the water filter you don't need any special water, just use tap water. You will not believe the wonderful taste nor will you recognize your own favorite brand of coffee. I highly recommend this Hamilton Beach over any carafe making coffee maker!

I have used typical Mr. Coffee coffee pots for years and this is the first time I tried a new type of machine. I want to refer to the cons posted here earlier 1) No "beep" signaling end of brew. 2) No "table service" if you entertain, they have to serve themselves "cafeteria style." 3) Tall, measure for space if you plan to place it on a counter under cabinets.
My opinion: I have never had a coffee machine that had a beep signal, you know it's complete when you see the coffee has dripped to the amount you had poured in the machine, I belive if one wants "table service" for entertaining they can easily have a carafe used in place of a cup by putting the maching near the edge of the counter. 3rd, I had no problem with my counter it fits under it fine, just measure yours first to be sure.
I love that it has an automatic timer, no carafe to break or crack. Put your coffee cup under it and push the button. It doesn't have that stale taste after sitting around for an hour, that's the main reason I bought one. I never had any trouble with it leaking. I have filtered water already on my kitchen sink. I would highly recommend this lovely machine :)

I am very happy with my Brewstation. I have only used it for a few days, but I like it better than any other machine I have used.
I won't repeat what other reviewers have said.

Here are a few of my observations:

Before you buy it, make sure you provide sufficient height if you want to place it under hanging cabinets. The machine is approximately 22.5" high with its lid flipped up for filling. 20.5" will be sufficient to flip up the lid far enough to enable filling the tank. However, above at least a part of the tank, you will need the full height if you plan to use the detachable pail to fill the tank, or you won't be able to tilt it far enough to get all the water into the tank.

One thing I had to change in my habits was to retire my tall thermal mug. The station can be used with mugs up to 5.5" tall.

Filling is much safer than with coffee makers that have a glass decanter. There is virtually no water spill, no excessive caution necessary.

The coffee stays hot for several hours (even after the machine shuts off) and tastes great.

Be careful when unpacking the Brewstation. I got several paper cuts (actually cardboard cuts) from the box.

I hope this review doesn't sound too negative, for I love my Brewstation, and I was just trying to provide measurements to avoid surprises. If you have the space, get this gadget!

The idea behind the maker is a good one. But, not thought out very well. Within one week the plastic insert that holds the coffee was stained. The 2 hour shut off is really the pits most other makers are 4 hours. The coffee starts getting cold a half an hour before it shuts off. The big selling point of this maker was that your coffee can sit in it all day without tasting burnt. Well, of course it doesn't taste burnt it doesn't stay on long enough.

I thoroughly enjoy using this coffeemaker. After 1 month of daily use I have had no problems. I love the one-hand dispensing. I have had no problems with the bucket staining or the dispenser dripping, so far. There is a minor annoyance of some condsensate dripping onto the counter when you open the lid, since not all of it funnels back into the reservoir, but H.B. had the right idea and tried hard to get it right. There is a discrepancy between the outside and inside cup markings. The outside 12 cup line corresponds to the 12 cup volume on my traditional glass carafe on another H.B. coffeemaker, but the inside line will read only 10 cups. If you use the inside marking for 12 cups, you will have about 8 oz. more, so use a bit more coffee grounds so you won't have weaker coffee. I actually like using the inside measurement, so I have an extra cup of coffee out of the pot at the end of the day. I just adjusted the amount of grounds I use. If I encounter any of the problems other reviewers have found, you'll hear back from me.

I returned the first one the next day because it would turn on, but not brew (pump wouldn't work). I returned the second one 2 days later after brewing several "pots", 4/6/10 cups. In all cases the coffee reservoir leaked from the dispensing hole. Also, the brewed coffee somehow managed to drip down the side and accumulate around the heating element. Somehow brewed coffee even got inside the unit. Condensate water for the lid also dripped inside the unit. I consider this an electrical safety hazard and returned the unit and got a refund. Too bad, the concept is good.

This coffeemaker is great. It has a short brew time, makes great tasting coffee, and looks good too. I like how it comes apart. The holding tank for the coffee (which also doubles as a measuring cup for water) comes out so you can fill it at your sink. It also has a handle so you can hang it on the spigot while it's filling. The coffee ground bin also comes out. The only problem I have with it, is that it is a little tall, but that's allright for me, because I have enough space for it. The coffee tastes great. I don't know if that is because of the water filter or the "scorch free" warming plate. I have not had the problems of the other reviewers like the time resetting or the leaking. I've owned this unit for 2 months and have been extremely pleased. The first, and most obvious, benefit is never needing, cleaning or breaking a glass carafe. Both the brewing basket and the coffee resevoir lift off the base and are ruggedly designed, making the unit easy to fill and reassemble. The lid, which fits over the entire unit, does collect a lot of condensation; however, when you lift the lid the water is channelled back into the water tank. The dispenser fits even the largest mugs, and a little metal drip grate also serves as a nice place to rest a coffee spoon. The internal tank also keeps the coffee hot longer without burning or bitterness. The only negative: the brew seems a little weak, which means you use a little more coffee. (This is also the only thing in my kitchen that would motivate me to write a review!)

The "BrewStation" is innovative in the field of coffee makers. It's well designed, and coffee is great after a few "pots". I wondered how it could be cleaned, but it comes apart very cleverly, and so far cleaning is a breeze!! ONLY DRAWBACK: The "BrewStation" cannot be placed on countertop under average cupboard space without moving it for opening for making coffee, etc. This is a problem in my small kitchen, and I have yet to find a solution. I purchased this coffee maker to replace my standard one with a glass carafe. I have had to replace 3 carafes this year due to cracking and breaking. I bought it first then read reviews and it kind of scared me, but I went about the business of cleaning it. I followed the directions to the letter for the cleaning process and clock process. As long as you follow the directions, you should have no trouble. Now, I haven't had it long enough to comment on the staining problem. But I checked it and rechecked and there has been no leaking. I had trouble pouring the water into the resevoir only twice and both times were my fault because I got in a hurry and had the tank tilted at the wrong angle. The unit is rather tall for my cabinets. I have to pull the unit out from under the cabinets to lift the lid properly, but I set a mat under the pot so that I could slide it back and forth easily without sloshing the water.

I love the handles on the coffee filter and tank. They make it much easier for me to lift and hold. The coffee brewed within 10 minutes and was VERY hot! And it stayed warm for quite a while after the coffee pot turned off in two hours. I only fix one pot/day. It started at 6:15 am and I poured the last cup for husband at about noon. It was not burnt tasting at all.

The button works wonderful for pouring the coffee. It did kind of just "trickle" while it was brewing, though. Not a full pour until it is through brewing.

As far as leaking, I have had no trouble. Do be careful when lifting the lid. There will be condensation. Do not slam the lid back quickly, or you will splash the condensation all over the back of machine. When you put the pot up for the day, just take your dishtowl and wipe up the extra moisture, and you will be fine.

As far as staining, the manual does recommend using commercial coffee maker cleaners. My idea is to let soak in vinegar regularly (once a week), and be sure to clean and rinse as soon as coffee drinking is done for the day or inbetween pots. That may help. Maybe even a soak once a month in diluted bleach may help. In short, I am very happy with NO GLASS POT to break!

I purchased this coffee maker not to replace my existing one but, just to try it out. It looked like a good concept not have the carafe. This thing always leaks!!! 1st... You have to fill the water to the precise level or it overflows. OK I'll eagle eye the 12 cup mark. 2nd... Because the basket and PLASTIC carafe is internal, when you open the lid the next time to make coffee, all the condensation from the last batch spills out the back of the lid and all over the counter. 3rd.. After a week the lettering on the front started wearing off. 4th... The plastic carafe stains after 2 to 3 pots and you can no longer see the coffee level indicator and makes the coffee taste bad. 5th... The non adjustable timer for the auto shutoff is to short and if it shuts off, it takes forever for the coffee to warm up again. Poor design, poor coffee flavor!

Hands down the worst coffee maker I have ever owned. The convenience of having no carafe to fumble with is not worth it. A removable bucket that sits on top of a heating element replaces the carafe. While the bucket is much easier to clean, its handle is always unpleasantly wet when you go to remove it. Because the brewed coffee is stored inside the machine (instead of in a carafe), residual moisture becomes trapped when it is not in use, which begins to cause a funny smell and taste. After about a week of daily use my coffee started to taste like dishwater. The heating element is weak. With four cups remaining in the bucket, it takes about two hours to get it warmed up. Very disappointing overall.

I HAVE HAD 3 GO BAD AND HAMILTON BEACH STOOD BEHIND THEM ALL. THE ONE BASKET HANDLE BROKE. THEY SENT ME A NEW ONE TO PUT THE WATER IN TO TAKE IT TOO THE COFFEE POT. YOU MUST NOT GET GROUNDS IN BOTTOM OF IT. IF SO RINSE THEM OUT. TAKE YOUR FINGER AND PUSH THE PLACE WHERE THE COFFEE COMES OUT. CLEAR THAT OF ANY GROUNDS. I HAVE LEARNED HOW TO USE MINE. I WOULD HOPE THEY HAVE THESE FOR EVER. I HAVE AN ALL WHITE KITCHEN AND WHITE ONE I LOVE. I ALSO HAVE A BLACK ONE. I USE THE BLACK ONE ALL THE TIME. THE WHITE ONE IS ONLY FOR COMPANY. YOU CAN FIX TEA IN ONE AND COFFEE IN THE OTHER. WHEN THEY CAME OUT WITH THIS I SAW IT IN THE TRADE SHOW AND COULDN'T WAIT TILL IT WAS ON THE MARKET. WHEN I SAW ONE IN A STORE FOR THE FIRST TIME I HAD TO GET IT. THANKS HAMILTON BEACH FOR SUCH A GOOD COFFEE POT.

This product was awful from the time we bought it. We purchased it because we hadn't seen one like it before and thought it would be nice to not have a caraffe. We were wrong. After the third time Hamilton Beach replaced it for malfunctions, we decided that was enough and went out and bought a traditional coffee maker. It made bad coffee, was hard to clean, and was messy. I would not recommend this product.

I bought this coffee pot in August 2003, so I've been using it for 14 months as of this writing. It has performed well.

Coffee is always tasty, I use the timer, (fill up the water at 9pm, coffee pot makes coffee at 6:30am). Never had problems with the clock or timer.

The biggest issue I have had is the cup indicator on the coffee pot. On the inside of the carafe the cup indicators are about 2 cups off from the front of the machine. So while the outside of the machine says 8 cups, the inside says 6 cups. Which is it? I usually fill it to 6 on the inside and use 8 tbsp of coffee.

Coffee is always warm and tasty. Not hot, never cold (unless the pot is off). The other issue is one I have with every coffee maker: stains on the carafe -- in this case the 'carafe' is like a plastic pitcher. I cannot get the stains off -- even with steel wool. It's very difficult to gauge the amount of coffee in the pot now when it's brewed because the stains on the plastic are so dark.

That being said, I often remember issues with a glass carafe.

I too have water dripping from the lid (where the water is filtered) when I remove the old grinds and replace the coffee. There's no flood but some drops.

Overall, I give it a B+. Room for improvement, but the fact you can hold your child in one hand and pour yourself coffee in the other is fantastic!

Overall, this has been a fairly good coffee maker. I ordered it almost when it first came out (TV ad) because we have killed about 10 coffee pots in about 5 years. They keep burning out or various other problems, I guess because we make one or 2 pots of coffee a day. (I don't think this is excessive, but the coffee pot manufacturers must think so because all their products break in less than a year)

It remains to be seen how long this one will last. I've owned it for about 6 months. I agree with the person who says you can't really clean up the plastic. It gets coffee stains, and that's pretty much it. I expect coffee pots to look pretty bad, though, because most of them do after awhile no matter how much you clean them.

One thing I absolutely HATE about this machine is that it is nearly impossible to pour the water into the chamber without spilling it everywhere, no matter how many different ways I've tried to pour it.

The next thing is that the on/off switch is screwy. It is supposed to turn off after a couple of hours, but sometimes it'll stay on all day for no reason. Sometimes when you try to press the switch, it turns off. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I have to unplug it from the wall outlet just to get it to turn off.

The other thing is that the water filters are so flimsy that they sometimes break open and drop charcoal down into the hole that funnels the water into the brewer, so you'll get really horribly strong coffee and not know why right away. Then, the next time you try to pour water into the chamber for brewing, you notice there's still water in there. (too late, unfortunately, so you end up putting too much water in and spilling it everywhere). No, I'm not under the influence or anything...we just have kind of a dark area where the coffee pot sits.

That crap they say about the coffee not getting a burnt taste is just not true. After the initial brewing, if you turn the switch back on immediately after it switches off - the coffee tastes just as burnt as another pot with a burner. Why? Because this coffee pot has a burner below the coffee chamber. It's just a little bit better hidden.

So, all in all - I think I probably like it but I sure wish I could fill it up with water without spilling it all over the kitchen counter and down the front of the cabinets.

Review: Fair Coffeemaker, Terrible Customer Service

I purchased this coffeemaker and realized that the machine I received in the box did not match the pictures posted to the website (neither amazon, nor Hamilton Beach website).

The coffeemaker posted shows numbered markings in the water-well portion of the coffeemaker, so you know how much to fill it to make less than a full 12 cups of coffee. The one I received did not have this "water-legend".

I contacted hamilton beach customer support via phone and was told that I was pretty much out of luck - that the web page pictures - as well as the pictures on the side of the box were false. They would do nothing to help me out.

I contacted their website customer support thinking that maybe I just had a bad phone experience. I received an email response promising contact within 2 working days. After almost 10 working days, I have yet to hear from them.

Buyer Beware if you purchase this product. Sure it may work fine, but when you purchase from a company - you hope that you would be considered a valued customer. This is obviously not the case with Hamilton Beach.

I bought the brewstation about 6 months ago, and to date, we have not had any kind of problems with it working correctly or anything breaking. Everyone that comes to our home ends up wanting one. We even had a graduation party and much to my surprise the coffee pot ending up being the hit of the party.

My husband and I are big coffee drinkers, I usually make around 4 pots a day. I like it because during the day when I am home by myself, if I have leftover coffee, I can just turn it back on and it will reheat and still taste the same. Neither one of us have ever noticed a plastic taste or smell and I was apprehensive about that when I opened the box to find the water holder was plastic.

The only negatives I have found are:
1. the fact that the condensation in the lid does run down the back and get the counter wet 2. The plastic holder does stain and I have not been able to find anything that will clean the plastic which makes it look like my coffee pot is dirty. 3. The little drip plate needs to be just a touch bigger as occasionally a drip will fall right on the edge. 4. It would be nice if they made it a bit wider instead of so tall so you didn't need to pull the pot out to fill with water.

Other than that, this is a dream for anyone who has people in their house that pour a cup of coffee and do not wipe up any drips or spills! I was actually surprised to hear so many negative reviews, I was just searching to see if anyone knew how to get the darn stains out!

Coffee taste's like plastic due to the plastic holding tank. Coffee is also not as hot as our older Mr. Coffee that we replaced it with. On the second day the auto off function no longer worked. Also came with a water filter. OK, how does this filter water when it sets over the water inlet allowing water to flow around it ?? That was enough problems for me. Replaced it with a new Mr. Coffee. Yipee hot coffee again that doesn't taste like plastic.

Bought this machine in December 2003, loved it from day one. Water reserve does get stained by the coffee and does not come clean, but the coffee and convenience are great. However, in June, only 6 months later, the machine quit working. Would not brew at all. Hamilton beach told us to cut the plug off the cord and send it to them. We did and they sent us a brand new coffee maker. So far so good. Ask me again in 6 months.

I loved this machine when first purchased in 2003. However, I am now not so enthused. First, it is to large and cumbersome on the countertop; the coffee tank is seriously stained and I have tried to clean it but impossible (which also makes the unit an eyesore); and we also throw out excess coffee since it gets cold fast due to the automatic shutoff. Automatic shutoff is a convenient safety feature however it shuts off too soon hence cold coffee. I have no negative comment on the brewed coffee taste. The convenience of not needing a glass coffee pot works for my husband and I, but when serving several guests we need to transfer coffee to a coffee server. Also there is a water filter in the machine which should have been replaced several months ago, however having to call in to order a new filter is inconvenient. I would not purchase this unit again.

This product is a major disappointment. Six months ago I ordered the BrewStation for myself and liked it so much I ordered another as a gift. Had I known then what I know now I certainly would not have done that. The handle on the bucket broke this weekend. Thankfully, it was not full of hot coffee at the time. Within two days of that happening, the auto shut-off quit working. These defects could be extremely dangerous. If you assume the auto shut-off works, please don't. We have all heard of homes burning down because appliances were left on. Don't use the handle to lift the bucket.

I think Hamilton Beach should recall these and rework the design. The general concept is great but, as they stand, the coffee makers are dangerous.
