I was given this coffee maker as a gift and it didn't live up to the Cuisinart name at all!!! It lasted for about four months of light use and that is disgusting for a very expensive coffee maker. I'll NEVER buy anything "Cuisinart" again.

Review: Bitter Tasting Coffee

->Best Price Cuisinart DCC-1000R Programmable Filter Brew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Red

This Cuisinart does not live up to the Cuisinart reputation for brewing good tasting coffee. It brews the coffee at a temperature that is too high; as a result, the coffee is scorching hot and has a bitter taste. It is so bitter and acidic that it gave me a stomach ache. I used freshly ground Starbucks coffee which I have used in the past, so I know that it wasn't the coffee.

It is the best coffee maker I've had. Works beautifully. Water tank IS a bit small, but the problem is solved by tilting the coffeemaker a tad forward at the end of the pouring action.
Love it. It also matches the color of my toaster and coffee grinder.

This coffeemaker is alot more tempermental than a second one I have at home. I bought this for my office, and most times it spills over, if the lid isn't closed down all the way, it brews coffee with a ton of grounds in it. It definitely is not Cuisinart quality the way I know it. I guess maybe next time I will buy the best coffeemaker Cuisinart makes (like the one I have at home) and skip the cheaper models.

I bought this for Mom's red kitchen and everytime I see her she thanks me this for this coffee pot. It's stunning and a true red that only cuisnart pulls off. Don't skimp on money with coffee pots. You get what you pay for and with this coffee pot - you get a lot. Highly recomended.

This is the second one I have owned. My first one was red & it not only looked very nice & didn't take up a lot of room but it made great coffee which stayed hot right through the 2 hrs it remained on. It brews good coffee fairly quickly. The only problem I had was it leaks a little, not sure where from, but not enough to make a difference in the amount of coffee or the coffee's taste or make much of a mess. The one I had broke recently so I got on amazon.com & ordered another one. The red color is a nice shade of red. Making good tasting coffee & remaining hot are 2 important features for any coffeemaker & this one has both.

I bought this new - it's being clearanced - at my local Target and I filled it with water to run it before using it, and lo and behold, the bottom of the water gauge is leaking lots of water. After reading the other comments, I will pack it up and NOT get another one.....instead I will continue to use my old Krups ProAroma until it dies.

Review: Poor quality - a great disappointment

->Deal Cuisinart DCC-1000R Programmable Filter Brew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Red

I bought this coffee pot after owning the older version of the grind and brew. Silly of me to think this would be an improvement. The front load basket design is terrible. It is a true "pain" to clean this section, you cannot get your hands or any tool I have in my kitchen to clean the mechanisms. Therefore, the brew basket sticks and at times the latch that holds the basket in will at times be gummed up. Then when you start to brew your coffee thinking that the latch is closed, its not - its gummed up. Not a problem until the heat and moisture from the brewing coffee loosen the gunk up and your basket shoots out and the coffee brews all over your counter. As many times as hubby and I try to clean this its become too much of a pain, this coffee pot is out of here... and on its way to the curb. I actually am contemplating sending it back to cuisinart in pieces!!!!!!
Poor design. Did I mention the coffee itself does not seem to have the same flavor as the other machine. I think this one brews at a higher temp making the coffee bitter.

My advise as a seasoned coffee maker/drinker. PASS save your money and your headaches.

Review: Dislike button pause and pour
by: B. Keyt on date: March 20, 2006

->Discount Cuisinart DCC-1000R Programmable Filter Brew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Red

I am not a fan of the pause and pour feature. IT is a button and if the pot is not directly under button the coffe over flows. On two occasions the machine stopped dripping coffee in the pot, casing grounds to overflow the filter. I can only assume the pot was not perfectly placed. I searched for a red coffee maker at a resonable price but could find none without this type of pause and pour. I may have to remove button for 100% satisfaction. But I love the red accents in my kitchen.

Review: Poor design and bad flavor

I recently bought one of these coffee makers because it had all the features I was looking for. I wanted a programmable 12oz. coffee maker with water filter and permanent coffee grounds basket with an interrupt feature so I could pour a cup before the brewing cycle was complete. I was really dissatisfied when I actually used it. I wanted a 12 cup coffee maker. This maker measures cups as 4.5oz. rather than 6oz. so it is actually a nine cup maker. Secondly, the only way to completely empty the carafe is to turn it completely upside down. This may be an intentional design to keep the last ounce of coffee and coffee grounds in the bottom of the carafe, but it makes filling the water reservoir more difficult which is already inconvenient as has been noted by several other reviewers. The reservior sight guage and carafe volume markings don't match either. You have to add more water to get the sight gauge up to 12 cups. This might also be intentional design since some of the water will be trapped in the grounds. I liked the fact that a permanent gold toned coffee grounds basket was included but the unit I got didn't have one. I would have to order one for $10 plus shipping and handling to get one that would fit this coffee maker. And finally, the coffee tastes bad. The first time I used it, I brewed a couple pots with water only, then made my first pot of real coffee. It had a nasty, strange plastic flavor that I thought was because it was new. I tried descaling it a couple of times with vinegar and water but the bad flavor remained. That sort of defeats the point of having a water filter included. I will try brewing a few more pots, but if I can't get rid of that strange flavor, I will trash this machine.

My white KitchenAid coffee maker was looking nasty and old so instead of waiting for the new model, I bought this Cuisinart. I used it for four days. It's now in the garage. It absolutely drove me nuts. The lid for pouring in the water doesn't open far enough to clear the carafe so I ended up spilling half the water. And the basket thingie won't close if the basket is off a millimeter. And besides, I don't think the coffee was all that great for $70. So now I'm back to my 4-Cup blue KitchenAid and saving my dough for another big KitchenAid.

Hands down the best coffee maker I have ever owned. Brews great coffee and having the clock and time on TOP is a major plus if you are someone who sometimes overflows the pot. ( the older I get the more I do this ha ha) It is also quiet which is nice. No moaning, groaning, or spitting with this coffemaker. Enjoy!

Review: complicated cleaning
by: Richard Staudt on date: June 10, 2004

->Comparison Cuisinart DCC-1000R Programmable Filter Brew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Red

Makes good coffee but has five separate parts that have to be disassembled and cleaned when the grinder is used to make coffee. Three are in the basket assembly and two in the grinder assembly. The Melitta grind & brew machine is equally as good and much simpler to clean with the basket and grinder assembly combined (I've owned both and wish I'd bought another Melitta). Cleaning is much faster and simpler. The only disadvantage to the Melitta is that it is a 10 cup machine rather than 12. If you don't need the 12 cups the Mellita MEMB1B or MEMB10B is a much better choice.

Review: Very disappointing purchase

->Wholesale Cuisinart DCC-1000R Programmable Filter Brew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Red

My Kitchenaid died after three years. I was very sorry to see it go, since it was a wonderful coffee maker in my estimation, except that it didn't have an outside water level indicator. So I did the usual search for a new coffee maker: Target, K-Mart, Macy's, Bloomie's, Amazon, Cooking.com. I even called Kitchenaid and they told me they discontinued coffee makers and are planning to present a new one after the first of the year. But I can't wait that long. So I bought this Cuisinart without reading any reviews, just on the say-so of the Macy's salesperson and the fact that it looked better than the Mr. Coffee-type makers.

The filling spout is ridiculous. You can't pour all the water in without tipping the carafe all the way upside down and lifting it up about 8 inches above the opening. I sometimes have trouble getting the pot back inside the holding area. I can't read the water level indicator on the side without my glasses. And I can't read the clock without my glasses either. The way the water comes out makes the grinds jump up and collect on the underside of the spout, so I have to clean that area daily. On the plus side, however, I like the taste of the coffee it makes.

I had decided to keep this maker nontheless until this morning. The grounds flew up out of the filter and covered the spout, so grounds got all inside the carafe and inside the works of the machine. And if that wasn't bad enough, my counter was flooded from coffee leaking out the top. So I boxed it up and brought it back to Macy's. I got the Braun KF580 instead, so we'll see how that one works out.

Review: Great coffee maker with one annoying flaw
by: on date: May 22, 2004

->Price Cuisinart DCC-1000R Programmable Filter Brew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Red

I agree with what most of the reviews are saying so far. I have been nothing but satisfied with the quality of the coffee this mahine produces. Tastes great! The water filter really makes a difference, plus I like the gold-tone coffee filter. I was hesitant at first (about the permanenet coffee filter), but I would compare the taste of the coffee this machine makes to that of french press coffee, but without the small grounds in the last cup. (The last cup of coffee poured from this one does contain a little sediment, but that's worth it for the taste) The carafe is SOMETIMES a little difficult to get seated back on the plate, but this is a problem I've had with many other coffee makers before.

The only thing that kept me from giving it a 5-star rating is the lid to the water reservoir (that others have mentioned). It is so large that when it is opened, it is very difficult to get the carafe over the reservoir opening to pour water in. It is virtually impossible to get the last bit of water out of the carafe. Seems that it would have been a very easy flaw to fix if Cuisinart had done some research and asked a few consumers before production.

Again, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, yummy coffee. I'm having some now!

Review: LOVE My RED Coffeemaker!
by: Sheila K. Restivo on date: March 13, 2004

->Compare Cuisinart DCC-1000R Programmable Filter Brew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Red

This Red Coffeemaker Makes My Morning! It came with "bells and
whistles" I hadn't been looking for (such as two programable timers-turning it on and when to turn it off) but I wanted the RED so I paid more than I would have for a B/W one and am very pleased. The timers work perfectly and the thing "dings" 5 times
when the coffee is done and twice when it turns off four hours
later (my setting). It brews quickly and doesn't drip when I remove the coffee pot before it's done. I'm not sure why the lid
on the coffee pot snaps on and off-I'd prefer a regular hinge-but to get a generous 12 CUPS and smile at the bright color on my counter is worth the tiny hassle. The 3YEAR WARRANTY is a
great thing too!

Review: lousy coffeemaker ... bad design!
by: Fern Nemenyi on date: April 7, 2003

->Comparison Cuisinart DCC-1000R Programmable Filter Brew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Red

I bought this coffeemaker after doing a fair amount of research. The price was right, the company respectable, the features sufficient. Turns out that the coffeemaking is only so-so ... the design is terrible and makes the white model always stained on top and needing to be wiped down behind the carafe where the coffee always drips down. If you buy one, and a strongly recommend that you spend your money elsewhere, definitely do not buy the white one. It is downright unsightly unless you clean it up all the time. I wrote Cuisinart an email to complain about this model after only owning it a few weeks and got back a pat, unresponsive letter with no desire to try and accommodate my dislike of it and provide perhaps an alternative model. All told, I would not buy another Cuisinart coffeemaker and would think twice about buying anything by this company after my contact with customer service.
