I found this coffee maker to make really great coffee, but I personally can't see where it's worth the extra $100 compared to my older black & decker. I like the style of it a lot, it looks great sitting on the counter, and the thermal carafe works great as well, keeping coffee hot for hours. I also agree with one of the other posts that for this kind of price, I think a removable reservoir really should be part of the design. Other than that, I have enjoyed it so far!

I like it because you can tell when the coffee is done by the silence after making all that noise! It does all it says it will and the coffee is good. I agree with the problems listed by the other reviews. It is GREAT LOOKING, but is it worth the price?

The first thing you notice about this machine is that it's probably the best looking drip coffee maker on the market. The aluminum body shines and the carafe has a very hefty look and feel to it, with the brushed stainless and black plastic. The machine is well made and thoughtfully laid out -no fancy dials, switches, or other gimmickry. It has an intuitive programmable display with a muted orange LED for time, green for program brew, and red for ON (brew now). Simple. The water reservoir is not removable, but the lid does open all the way up and stays up so you can easily fill it and the water filter is very easy to get at and change. The machine brews a whole pot in like 5-8 minutes -it's fast and has drip stop for those in a hurry. So that's all the good stuff.

The bad: you have to clean the lid of the carafe carefully, otherwise you risk having coffee flow over if the little ball in the lid gets stuck. Also, because the drip stop and carafe lid are designed in such a way, if you don't correctly align the carafe with the drip-stop, you also risk getting coffee flowing all over the counter -major drag. And while the coffee filter holder itself comes out, it's very hard to clean the surrounding frame that holds it.
And finally, there's the price -MAJOR premium over other comparable brands and given the I've had with the carafe lid and the number of times I've had coffee spilling out all over the pot and countertop, I really question the price.
But if good looks and fast coffee are all that matter, this is a real contender. Otherwise, I would consider a less expensive machine.

I must agree with the others who have reviewed this machine that it does make very good coffee. However, despite making great coffee it is a very messy machine. After every batch of coffee I have to clean the inside of the flip top lid as coffee grinds back up and stick to it... yuck... nothing like wiping up wet mushy coffee grinds. Additionally, the water level gauge developed a nice green algae that I could not get rid of. I had the machine less than a year and passed it along to a friend as the maintenance was not worth it. Have reverted back to Krups to give them another try.

After muddling around in the Department store coffemakers for years, I purchased this machine based upon the fact that I have a Capresso S8 Automatic Espresso Maker and enjoy it. This machine is truly amazing, making by far the best coffee I have tasted from a home machine. The carafe can leak when brewing if not aligned right,and has done so twice in 6 weeks, but if you know this and are careful to align it, no problems. Also, if you preheat the pot before brewing, the coffee stays hot for at least 4 hours. I recommend the carbon filters as well. If you want the best, you have to pay for it....so far after 6 weeks of daily coffee, we are both smiling every morning because of this machine.

I've been researching for a long time to buy a good coffee maker as I've been used to the espresso machine all the time. After a lot of research finally decided on buying this one.

It took a couple of attempts to make good coffee until i figured to use 3-5 cups option for making strong coffee. Since then, I've been enjoying the great coffee every morning, now I almost don't miss my espresso machine anymore. It's definitely pricey compared to other coffee makers, but it's certainly worth it.

This is simply the best coffee machine in its price category. Yes, yes, I know some reviewers have carped about the fact that the pot has to be positioned "just so" in its holder, and that unless the black "dot" on the pour spout is precisely lined up, coffee spills all over. So yes, they should color the dot red so it's easier to see, and make the housing for the pot itself a bit deeper so it fits snugly in place. But if you really, really love coffee, these are VERY MINOR annoyances -- after a few pots, you get the hang of it and know exactly how to position the pot and how to line up the spout. Thermal caraffe instead of a hot plate saves on electric and keeps the coffee hot and fresh for hours, and nicely warm well into the afternoon. Also, it brews coffee at precisely the right temp to bring out the best flavor, no matter what brand of coffee you use. And the design is cool. Bravo Capresso! (I have their burr grinder, too, and it's a winner too.)

We have had this Capresso coffeemaker for over a year, and have found it to be flawless. We have had none of the small problems shared by other reviewers. We did, however, put a small dab of white paint on the top's black dot to make it easier to see and position which might help others who are having a problem with that issue. Not only has the machine held up to rigorous use, it continues to deliver fine coffee for us - and we are admittedly coffee snobs! We recommend this Capresso coffeemaker highly.

I read all of the reviews on this product before I made my purchase and almost did not make it. I was worried that I would wake up one morning and have coffee all over my counter, but it has not happened. Consumer Reports rated it very high so I went for it. It is easy to use, I have not had any problems, looks great in my kitchen, and the coffee is excellent.

This is our third Capresso coffeemaker (in a good number of years). In fact, our 2nd one was repaired by Capresso, and has been given to our daughter to enjoy. Capresso makes great coffee, and obviously hot enough water. I miss the removable tank in which to fill the water, however. The stainless steel body is attractive, but I would have preferred our former color--white. My kitchen doesn't have any stainless steel appliances. Oh, well, my Capresso is my accent piece!

I have had this model for 6 weeks now and I have no complaints. The concept of not letting the coffee sit on a hot burner makes a lot of sense. The coffee is very hot and tastes great. I take a little more time to rinse the various parts than with previous units, but this is not a problem. The design that keeps the coffee hot allows for a small spout. Although it pours very well, it is slower and takes about 7-8 seconds to fill a big mug vs 2-3 seconds with a conventional model. Again this is not a problem for me. The coffee maker is nice looking and fits in well with our kitchen.

Let's get the price issue out of the way: in no way is this "worth" its price premium over other brands by virtue of its construction / materials. You are considering buying this for one reason only: coffee geek self-indulgence in search of the best possible home-brewed.

With that acknowledged, how does it do? Answer: pretty damn well, with a couple of asterisks.

(Note: our standard of comparison is a late, lamented Braun Flavor Select, which made excellent coffee for close to a decade. But the current Braun models lack a couple of features we liked on the previous one, which threw the choice of a replacement open to all comers. We eventually settled on the Capresso.)

First off, this is FAST. It seems like there's barely enough time to put away the coffee bean jar and pull out a couple of mugs before it's ready to drink, at a perfect temperature: just slightly too hot to take more than a sip for the first couple of minutes. You do have to guess when the dripping has finished, since the brewing light doesn't go out for several minutes after.

The timed-brew feature, which is indispensible to us, sets up easily and works like a champ. We have well water but still use the water filter -- buy an extra pack at the same time you buy the coffeemaker. And we prefer using the included gold filter to avoid possible contaminants that could leech from a paper filter.

With those perameters, the flavor is incredibly good, smoother and less acidic than the Braun it replaced, using the same beans in the same quantity, while maintaining a similar richness and depth. Warning: just as high-quality stereo speakers can reveal shortcomings in source material and associated electronics, so this coffeemaker immediately lets you know if your coffee isn't up to the job. My wife's comment after her first cup: we need to use better beans.

If your brewed coffee sits around for more than a few minutes, Capresso's thermal carafe is a great improvement over Braun's warming plate. I often wait an hour for a second mug, and by then "burnt" aromas and flavors invariably creep into coffee that's been kept warm on a plate. Over that same time, the thermal carafe maintains a just-brewed flavor and seems to suffer only a minor temperature drop -- perhaps a couple of degrees.

Cleanup is definitely a bit fussy -- you remove the filter and filter holder for rinsing, and mop up the wet grounds that are invariably clinging to the bottom of the flip-up lid.

Now for those asterisks -- all minor annoyances, to be sure:

*The carafe is shiny stainless, while the coffeemaker itself has a brushed finish. That doesn't work well together -- especially in a kitchen where other appliances are brushed stainless. And I expect the carafe to start to show scratches after it's been around a bit longer.

*The carafe pours slowly with the "black dot" in position, and you need to almost completely invert it to get to the last couple of ounces.

*The water gauge has tiny, difficult-to-see numbers for my middle-aged eyes.

I haven't tried to replicate the "counter flood" problem occasionally reported on this and the identical non-metallic model, but I can see several ways it could happen: a stuck valve in the thermal cafafe lid, using more coffee than recommended in the instructions, or an ultra-fine grind. In other words, this coffeemaker is not engineered to be idiot-proof. I'm learning to check the valve every time we rinse the pot.

That said, this is the best home coffemaker we've ever used, which is why it gets five stars. Whether the quality justifies the cost is a matter for individual decision.

I have owned this Coffeemaker for one week. I will admit it makes a great cup of coffee and the coffee does not get bitter. BUT, You must follow instructions completely and carefully, or you will have a very hot dangerous mess.
The carafe must be closed with dots in a certain position for brewing. You must be sure the carafe is closed completely (dots again) to keep coffee warm. A few times we had the bottom of the filter get stuck and that caused an overflow of hot water and grounds. Once causing a burn. Now I must check the pop-up valve to be sure it is the correct position. There is no shut off button to stop the flow of hot water and hot grounds. I had a party and it was frustrating teaching everybody to open the coffee pot, much less help by making a pot. I would never make coffee without supervising.
Too much hassle! Too many overflows and 1 burn.

Incredible is just not grand enough to describe this coffee machine. One of the reviewers said it cost too much and gave it fewer stars then it deserves, but realize that you won't have better coffee anywhere else. I love this machine and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put the cap on nor is it too annoying to close it when placing it back on the system. I am not returning mine no matter how much it cost. I love it and I haven't had any better and I am sure it will pay for itself in the long run. The only feature I wished it had was a battery back up for power failure. Other then that this is the best machine on the market.

When I found out that my 8 cup machine from Starbucks was being recalled I was kinda sad. After reviewing the machine that they were offering as a replacement I decided to look else ware. I was worried about buying the Capresso machine because of the overspilling issue that many write about. I have to say, its not to hard to line the top of the craft up so that it will not overspill. Don't worry about this, it is not an issue unless you are completely clueless. This machine is very nice, the coffee has to be some of the best coffee brewed! I'm getting ready to box up and return this machine. Here's the story:

After my MT-500 started performing erratically, I contacted Capresso by phone and e-mail.

The company's entire customer-service department seems to be a voicemail message in New Jersey. Though the voice insists you'll get a call back if you leave a message, no one ever returned my call. Likewise, an e-mail I sent got no response from Capresso.

My MT-500 continues to hold water in the filter chamber rather than send it through to the coffee pot. I'm preparing to return it and buy another Krups machine instead; they may seem a little more basic than Capresso, but they're reliable, and their customer service at least exists.

This is a perfect coffee maker. Not only is it stylish, you can immediately tell that it is quality made when you see and handle it. Plus, unlike nearly every coffee maker, the carafe doesn't drip all over the place as you fill the tank or pour your cup. Yet, the greatest difference is in the taste of the coffee. I only drink a particular roaster's master blend, so my first pot was made using the same bean as I've always used; the same burr grinder; and the same amount of grounds. I was amazed how so many of the subtle flavors came rushing to the front of my first sip and continued to be really well balanced as I drank myself into the jitters with enjoyment. As I have continued to use this machine, I've yet to have a problem with it, nor have I had any overspills that other reviewers experienced. So my advice is: if your making a pot of Caribou or Starbuck's, this might not be the machine for you, but if you tend to walk past most coffee shops to get to where the finest coffee is brewed, than the Capresso MT500 Plus is a must for your kitchen and well worth the price.

As other reviewers have said, this is one of the best looking coffee makers on the market today. But, beyond that it brews great coffee; hot and fast. The lid is really a non-issue for us - tighten it all the way down to brew and after pouring; open it about a third of a turn to pour.

It is expensive. And while it works and looks great, I question if it is worth the amount of the premium over competitive products. I'm willing to concede a premium - the amount is what moved this from 5 stars to 4 for me.

Two suggestions for the manufacturer - 1) make the mark on the lid somewhat more obvious - different shape - different color and 2) put markings on the inside of the water compartment to mark how many cups (okay this is a very specific personal preference).

Over all, if the price isn't going to stop you from buying you will be very happy with the look and performance of this machine.

I rarely write reviews for products, though I definitely read them and consider them in my purchases. I was debating whether or not to spend a little more than I normally spend on a coffee maker. Usually I stay under $100. This one is worth the price. I read in a review of this product that someone had an issue with closing the lid and coffee spilling everywhere. I have no idea what they are talking about. The only potential issue is that the lid on the carafe has two "wings" and a small, round bump on the top. Do not confuse the wings for the bump. The bump indicates that the carafe is open for pouring. The wings are there to help you turn the top. If you spin the top around too much and go to pour, the lid will fall off and coffee will go everywhere. If you don't do that, you will have a fabulous coffee experience.

Overall, it's easy to use. I noticed a better cup of coffee the first time I used it. It's a great product.

So far, so good. We've gone through so many coffee makers, it's not funny. Last one was recalled by Starbucks. This makes a good, hot pot of coffee. The only problem with it is you have to be careful about cleaning the filter holder because if grounds get stuck in it, the sneak a cup while it's dripping function doesn't work and coffee gets deposited all over the counter. If you're careful about cleaning it, this problem doesn't happen. Here's hoping it lasts more than a year.

I have purchased many coffee makers and this is by far the best I have purchased. I was a little reluctant because of some of the bad reviews concerning the lid and overflow. Well, that's just the nature of the beast when you are using a thermal coffee maker. ALL thermal coffee makers will have a spillover problem if the lid is not properly closed. I experienced this several times with my Starbuck's Barista. I highly recommend this coffee maker. It is well worth the money!

This is the coffee pot for you. Our Krups of 10 years was just not cutting it anymore and the current models from the likes of Braun and Krups just seemed to be lacking. We purchased a Cuisinart (spending more than we had dreamed we ever would). We loved the looks of the coffee pot but we couldn't ever be sure how much water we had put in and it could not brew a good cup of coffee to save it's life. For two weeks I would wake telling myself that this was the day and then end up going to DD or Starbucks.

We researched every other brand know to man through web sites and retail stores until we came across the Capresso at Amazon. It was the customer reviews that led to our decision so much so in fact that I told myself I to would submit once I had a solid opinion. Now I love my coffee but there are some real snobs out there that helped make this decision for us through thier documented, painstaking accounts and research of the smallest detail.

This coffee pot is heavy and attractive. The controls are easy to use, the water level easy to see and we've had no difficulty with hot coffee cascading down the counter like some of the other reviews I had seen.

The coffee pot was more money than we had planned to spend but it makes great coffee every morning. The aroma is good, the coffee hot and I look forward it every day. The only negative I can see is that it is the loudest coffee pot I have ever had huffin' and puffin' away completing it's single task of brewing the perfect cup. However if you want to feel that you are the only person on line at Starbucks you may not be dissapointed. We have been using it for three months now and we would strongly recommend it to anyone who looks forward to a good cup of coffee each and every morning.

My wife and I consider our first cup of morning coffee to be the equivalent of birth. We approach the kitchen counter as if we were approaching an altar. Coffee!!! Life!!
We import a blend that is probably the best coffee in the world. Literally.

So when our last coffee pot from Starbucks died, we were in a rush to buy a good coffee pot. Money was not the issue. What we wanted was a quality machine that would last longer than some hyped-up machine from Starbucks.

I read a lot of reviews and settled in on this Capresso MT 500 in stainless steel.

Of the Capresso MT 500, I can say this. It makes a great cup of coffee, takes up a small footprint on the kitchen counter, and is easy to pour water into.
I do not bother with their charcoal gadget. To me, it is a possible source of retained bacteria and I do not want that permanently dwelling in the bottom of my coffee maker. Nor do I want to have to keep purchasing them. To me, that is a gimmick. If your local water is that bad, move.

The coffee DOES NOT STAY HOT ENOUGH in the thermal carafe. If you drink the coffee as soon as it it made, it is great. If you & others in your household get up at different times, then this becomes an issue because who wants to drink reheated microwave coffee? Not me, it takes something away from the flavor. Might as well buy a Mr. Coffee machine at that point and burn your coffee to smithereens right from the get-go.

It also needs to hold a cup or two more.

Bad point, thermal carafe is not well insulated and is too small.If you had a dinner party or friends staying over, you would be making pot after pot.

Also a little on the pricey side, but if you are the first one up, or live by yourself, you will enjoy it.

For the last 10 years, I have been searching for the highest quality coffeemaker I could find, irregardless of price. During that time, I have been involved in two recalls and two units that simply ceased to function after a time. While this may suggest problems with my research methods, I think this time, I have found the answer. I have been using the unit daily for 3 months. The controls are easy to use, the coffee is great, and the finish does not show watermarks like the stainless steel I am used to. In addition, the inside of the carafe is not showing staining, a big improvement over previous units I have had.
I do not let coffee sit long, but I am a great believer in a unit that does not apply heat after the coffee is brewed. There is a water filter included with the unit. However I use filtered water, so I just leave the filter plugged in but turned off the warning switch that tells me that it is time to replace.
While time may change my mind, at this point, while on the expensive side, this unit looks like the coffee maker I have beeen searching for.

Extremely disappointed. The first cup is good but the carafe isn't even an insulated one! You're coffee has gone cold within 20 minutes even after the hastle of running the hot water to preheat the carafe prior to making the coffee every morning. After a couple months of that crap I finally pulled out my faithful old Gevela this morning and it's the first time my 2nd cup has been hot in a couple months without me having to nuke it to warm it. I have owned this coffee maker for over one year, and it is the best available due to 1) stainless steel design, 2) thermal carafe, 3) good looking, 4) timer, 5) Capresso quality/construction, 6) excellent tasting coffee that is hot, and 7) reasonable size. I use a Capresso Infinity conical burr grinder with it, which improves the quality of the coffee due to an even, low heat grind that is very adjustable in terms of fineness.

A great coffee maker from a design and functionality standpoint. My wife immediately noticed the difference in how (more) hot the coffee was vs. our Starbucks (recalled) that we had. But after cleaning it all up and going through all the first pot procedures, I find the control panel will NOT let me set the time. Nor will it all me to cancel the flashing green light that indicates carbon filter change time!

To spend this much money and have to pack it all up and exchange and go through all the first use steps again is a royal PAIN!!

Overall a good coffee maker. Easy to use and clean. Does not make super hot coffee - drawback.

What a major disappointment. I had a regular Capresso coffee maker that we loved and decided to spring for their top of the line model with thermos. This machine was more designed to make a fast pot of "coffee" but what you wind up with is a pot of flavored hot water. It brews so quickly, it misses the grinds. It is the weakest coffee I ever tasted. We actually take the brewed pot of coffee and have to pour it back through again in order to get something close to resembling what we used to get with our $50 Capresso coffee machine. Don't waste your money on this unit. I also bought another one of these machines at the same time for my daughter's house warming gift. Fortunately, we got to her before she ever used it and returned it for full credit. Don' waste your money.

Makes great coffee...but the neck of the coffee pot is so narrow only a six year old could get his hand in to clean the inside of the pot!

Don't be put off by what you think may be the high cost of this coffee maker. The Capresso MT-500 is worth every penny. It will brew a full pot (10 cups) of coffee about 8 minutes. It is one of the few coffee makers that actually brews using the ideal water temperature (200 - 208F) and the machine is built to last. Expect to keep this machine for a while. Highly recomended

What is the best thing about the Capresso MT-500? It brews an entire pot of coffee in record time. I think they state it is under 7 minutes; However, it seems almost immediate compared to my old coffee maker which took eons and eons. Also, the coffee it brews is quite good. At least, that is to say I am satisfied with it and I previously thought I had unattainable standards for 'decent' home-brewed coffee. Glad to know I was wrong. Is it worth the price? Of course not, but you know that's why you want it. Just kidding. Enjoy!!

So far, this coffeemaker make the best drip coffee i've ever had. I have it for almost a year and not just me, but even my husband, who wasn't a coffee dniker started to really enjoy our morning coffee.

I've read in reviews complains about overflowing - i had it once and only because i've overfilled the tank.

Since i prefer to grind coffee beans right before i make coffee i don't usually use the timer, but a couple of times we had friends to sleep over, so i would make sure there is a pot of coffee when they are awake - so far very easy to use.

The design is beautiful and i don't see any major flows in it. The only thing i wasn't used to was thermal carafe that is kind of hard to clean inside. But there are many solutions on the market for that purpose so you can keep your carafe shiny from inside.

The carafe keeps coffee steamy hot for a couple of hours and even if it does for a longer time i wouldn't recommend to drink it. The best way to drink you coffee is to have it during the first hour. Ok, let's say 2 hours, but no longer. If you expect to drink it in 4-5 hours that mean you should probably look for a cheaper coffeemaker since taste is not an issue for you.
