First, totally inclined to install, use, etc. this item. Approx 1 1/2 years and each time it completely dies. No DISPLAY... NO WORK!!!! I woke up this morning and was devestated to see AGAIN after only 8 months of use (4 months the first time), it's dead. It will flash sometimes as though the power went out then you must re-set the clock, no BIG DEAL but now I know after being HAD again the flashing clock is a sign of what IS to come. A DEAD COFFEE MAKER. Yes, it looks fabulous, makes great coffee but what good is it, if it dies? 60.00 is alot of money. I called the company and they are suprisingly sending me a second replacement which cost 7.50 each time for shipping. I am now going on my third one!! I need this design in my kitchen but if you don't NEED this style I wouldn't bother. My sister-in-law has the leaky problem which I don't Just wanted to put some info out there that is a true review of time.

I've used Black and Decker spacemaker coffeemakers for ten years, had a miserable one with my last (the B & D with a thermal pot) that I used and threw away when it stopped completely. That one is hopeless for many reasons. After researching over the counter coffeemakers thoroughly I settled on a new one, the Black and Decker Spacemaker ODC440B (B is for black, I think).
Holding my breath I ordered it from an Amazon store. It was perfect, except for one flaw that is easily overcome. The timer races ahead when brand new. I could not get it to set the coffee to start at the right time because the timer went too fast. I called customer service at the company and they admitted the flaw. They said to unplug the coffee maker, wait ten minutes, and plug it in again. I did that, actually waited two hours, plugged it in and reset the timer. It worked perfectly. However several days later when I didn't finish the coffee in the two hours the timer allots, I pushed the On button to get the heating plate to continue to keep the coffee warm. It did that but that day the timer started to race ahead again. I unplugged it again, waited a couple of hours and plugged it in again. It reset itself perfectly again. Apparently the timer gets confused when you ask it to keep coffee heated without water in the resevoir to brew a fresh pot.
Other problems I have read about, the coffee running over, appear to be caused when you do not push the water resevoir in hard enough to hear the lock click or when you don't push the coffee pot in on the warming plate far enough to hear it click. When you do both, the ODC440B Black & Decker coffeemaker works well, makes good coffee, keeps it hot and fresh for two hours. Perhaps similar white B & D spacemaker coffeemakers will work well that way too. Mine sits on a slide-out tray above my counter. I didn't attach it permanently to the cabinet above the counter. I couldn't find any company that makes a similar over-the-counter coffeemaker, but if you use this one correctly, it's great.

I bought one of these, turned it on, tried to run the first water through it, and ended up with water all over the counter. It didn't brew just leak. I took it back they gave me a new one and it too just gushed water. I took that back and asked the clerk to try. She too spent 10 min moping the counter. I have to say this is just junk. I never even got a bad cup of coffee because I never got past the run with plain water first stage. Its not worth the 3 trips to the store.

The black pot and background leaves me unclear about how much coffee remains. The small on/off indication is hard to find/read. The water height measure is hard to read while holding the container under the faucet. Otherwise it makes fine coffee.

We love our under the counter coffee maker. We had a hard time finding a black one, however. We love having the counter space and not having to constantly move a convenional unit back and forth from under the cabinets to be able to fill the water reservoir. We also wish carafe replacements were easier to find.

This coffee maker works well, makes coffee quickly and is relatively small for an under-the-counter machine. The only negative comment I can make about it is that the carafe does not "lock" into place...there isn't a big lip or ridge to keep it securely sitting in the machine. So far, this hasn't been a big problem, but could be if we were really in a hurry... Otherwise, a decent coffee maker!

This coffeemaker has issues with the feature that allows you to take the pot out while it is brewing. The spring mechanism of the lever on the filter basket is too strong, an it pushes the pot out. What I did was to disable this by removing the lever and spring from the filter basket. It works great without the sneak a cup feature!!. The mounting was very easy. The styling is very nice, a big improvement over the previous version.

I have had same problem as previous raters. The brew basket continues to pop out just enough to gum up the outflow, then there is coffee and grounds all over the place.
I noticed on the bottom of the brew basket where it rests on the coffee maker, there are 3 small ears. Where there should be a fourth the plastic is ground perhaps this is the problem.

I read all the reviews before I bought this, but I took them with a grain of salt. This is the only brand of cabinet-mounted coffeemaker I could find. It works just fine. I especially love the removeable water reservoir because I don't have to fill the carafe and then pour it into the machine. Just fill the reservoir and pop it in! I have not had any trouble with the brew basket popping out or any of those problems other people mentioned. The mounting procedure was rather difficult, because our cabinets have a pretty large overhang. I think they could design that better. My old coffee maker had a different system that worked better. We had to cut a piece of wood to fit under the cabinet and take up some of that space, in addition to the spacers. It was difficult to get it level. Also, the issue of the screws protruding into the cabinet bottom is true. They should have designed it so that the screw head is inside the cabinet and the end of the screw is someplace else. Luckily since I had so much space to fill in, the screws don't protrude very far, and I covered the bottom of the cabinet with a piece of floor linoleum so my dishes don't catch on the screws.

DO NOT BUY THIS PROEUCT. It should have a zero star. I have purchased two of these coffee makers (the second to replace the first one that worked four months and failed to work at all). The second unit lasted 10 days. Unfortuately I threw away the receipts on the first unit before it failed and I assumed the failure was a fluke and just ordered another since I had gone to a lot of trouble to install the mounting prackets, which is no easy task. The retailer of the latest unit, Unbeatable Sale, has offered to replace the unit or refund my purchase price, since it failed in less than 30 days, but I'm still out a considerable (too high) shipping charge. Black & Decker's customer service is not very sympathetic. They did offer to replace the unit if I would pay the shipping charge. No thanks. This is a terrible item and you can be sure I will never buy another Black & Decker product.

We just purchased the newest version of the SpaceMaker. I was very excited when I saw it; we had tried the carafe version, and thought it was horrible (wouldn't pour.) I have been waiting for B&D to go back to the old design now for two years.
Unfortunately, I'm begining to think it wasn't a one-time design flaw, but B&D now. The new coffee maker has big problems; the grounds drawer keeps popping out . . . backs up, grounds everywhere . . . buyer beware, this one isn't any better than the last.

I bought this to replace my previous Black & Decker Spacemaker which I loved but finally gave out after about 5 years. Had some problems right from the start, the mounting bracket installs with the screw going up into the cabinet (previous ones I owned had the screw head in the cabinet with the rest of the screw outside below cabinet.) This new mounting limited the use of my cabinet because of 4 screws coming up into cabinet. Decided to try it just sitting on countertop. When the coffee brews the water drips into grounds bashet and the grounds basket would be forced open about a quarter inch, just enough to activate the sneak a cup freature. The water would collect in the grounds basket eventually spilling all over the counter. The only way to stop this from happening was to hold the basket shut while the coffee was brewing. I don't know if I just got a lemon or if this is a design problem. I returned it and bought another brand. Would have really liked the spacemaker though to free up some countertop. Hopefully they will eventually correct the problems with this model. Really disappointed it didn't work.
